right, lets assume that Hodgsons days are numbered and we will be getting a new manager in the next few days. lets also assume that Rafa wont be coming back in the next few days.

who do you want in as manager from the candidates likely to be available over the next few weeks?

Not sure, if we are appointing now I'd say Pellegrini, however I would prefer the board to instill Dalglish as a caretaker whilst they get up to speed on running the club and then start to look at possibilities (including Kenny in a permanent capacity) around Feb time. This does mean writing off the January transfer window but as long as relegation is no longer a possibilty I think we have enough quality to see us comfortably to the end of the season. Then in comes the new permanent manager and he will have transfer funds at his disposal.

King Kenny for me.

I presume someone posted Buxton's tweet last night that he reckons Rijkaard will, without question, be manager within the next 5 days. I presume this is the same info Kev is getting.

Little bit nervy about Rijkaard, seems like a rushed decision if it's true. Did well at Barca admittedly but not so well after that.

Got to admit i don't know a massive amount about Pelligrini other than what he did at Madrid and he did well with Villereal. Didn't pay a lot of attention to their style of play etc

Both him and Rijkaard would be a somewhat unknown quantity for me, in that apart from their spells at Barca and Madrid respectively I know f*ck all else about them.

Another option is having both: Dalglish with his eye for a player as director of football and Pellegrini as coach.

That would be sensible. The issue main with Pellegrini or Rijkaard would be their previous reliance on the sporting director to get the players in. I'm not sure we have the situation this time for someone to ease into that responsibility and a structure to sort that would be a good idea imo

Dalgish for time being, but the rest of the staff need to change too. GK coach clearly, probably Fitness & Medical staff.

I don't rate Sammy Lee at all unfortunately, manager alone won't solve this.

Forward looking appointment would be Pellegrini, but in the future I would have us take Benitez back in a shot if available.

Yes, that might well be a good option. I've no idea if either or both of them would be happy with the arrangement, though

Does Dalglish have a particularly good record for spotting players, though?

Rudi Völler

as director of football with Rijkaard as coach

Think the main thing that comes from that thread is that I should be treated as a forum sage.

Anyway, Kenny for the short-term. Come Christmas, if things are going well and Kenny wants it, Kenny gets it. If he doesn't want it, or things aren't going well, spend the next 6 months identifying and securing the next long-term manager and crucially, HIS TRANSFER TARGETS.

Dump Sammy along with Roy and bring in Kenny and Thommo until the end of the season*. I agree with others that we need the owners to settle in to their roles and appoint a new CEO, who has experience in football, before we make a permanent appointment.

* Needs to be announced as a permanent appointment though, or you'll have the press and the players looking to pick holes in the uncertainty surrounding their positions.
