Dirk Kuyt

He polarises opinion at times, isn't one for the football purists and his form has been patchy this season.

 

But yet again today Dirk Kuyt came up with a crucial goal for the club. You think back through his time here, fifty goals for Liverpool Football Club is a fantastic achievement. However even moreso when you consider he's spent much of his time here playing wide and that a great many of his goals have come in massive games, he is proven to be at his best when it counts.

 

A goal in the Champions League final, several in Champions League quarters and semis against Arsenal and Chelsea, a regular scorer in derbies he is the man for the big occasion. I don't think he should play every game, against certain lesser opposition he could be rested in favour of a more skilful, quicker attacking player if one is fit and available.

 

However in Europe and against the top English clubs he would be in my side every time for his tactical nouse, work rate and ability to be in the right place at the right time like he was once again today. Congratulations Dirk on fifty goals for Liverpool, there were times earlier in his time with us I'd have seen him sold but he's gone on to prove me and many others wrong.

 

Dirk has been an exceptional servant to the club, and he deserves all the credit he gets for his winner and hard working efforts today. It was very much typical Dirk Kuyt.

Now I adore Torres, Gerrard, Carra, Reina etc. Of course I do, they are all brilliant.

 

But there's something about Kuyt that I love. He clearly isn't the best player in the world when it comes to technique, but he has this limitless pool of strength that he draws on. Even when he's in a wretched run of form I know that if his name is on the teamsheet then he will sweat blood for the cause.

 

I also know that when he is on form he has a record of scoring absolutely huge goals that rivals any other player in the world.

yeah definately one of my favourite players too. All i ask of any player is they give it their best. Dirk never puts in anything less than 100%. Sure he is out of form at times like every other player but the man still tries. Hes also a very intelligent player. Always knows the best thing to do, though doesnt always have the ability to do it. A great professional and really likeable character too.
