It's Friday afternoon - so it's Goal of The Season time

Back when goal of the season contests weren't just about the goal, but more about the build up leading to it.

How many times these days would a player let the ball go out of play for a throw-in instead of doing what McMahon did? Brilliant stuff.

the only problem I have with these is that I end up watching almost every video that I find with a Liverpool game in it.

a 5 minute trip to the PC ends up taking an hour.

still great to watch and remember those halcyon days.

I used to have a video of a review of that season - including the full 90 minutes of our 5-0 drubbing of Forest!

How great is that old badge, btw.

But, why is it specifically a Liverpool top 10?

because we ruled that season

no one else came close and they were probably the best 10 goals

that season some idiot MP tried to get a bill going where Liverpool would be handicapped points at the start of a season and were not allowed to buy players!! just to make the league 'interesting' and 'fair'.

Can't believe it's 21 years ago. Christ.

The difference in having players who will run at the opposition and take men on is really apparent. we could do with a Beardsley and a Barnes in our team now.

Keepers just don't go to ground like they used to! Great viewing.

Top Ten all from the one team, though; imagine the caniptions on the forums if they tried that nowadays.

Well observed. You just don't see that many great chipped goals these days.

Talking of great chipped goals, the

one at 2.50 into this is possibly my favourite ever Liverpool goal.

I hear ya, but the screamer before it was the one that I tried to recreate everytime when playing with me mates on the field. That was used in the titles at the begining of A Question of Sport for years!!

Kenny's chip in the final at Wembley. As a kid I thought I had just seen the most revolutionary idea for scoring a goal that no-one else had ever thougt of.

Just seen this too, just to tip the hat to Sammy, is it against manCity or Coventry?

Sweet strike of the ball.

The age old argument, was this the best Liverpool side ever?

Never actually saw them play aside from on Youtube clips and stuff like that, but from results and stuff, I'd say this was the most attractive Liverpool side - kind of like a supercharged Arsenal. But it wasn't the best...that'd be one of the late 70s/early 80s teams.

Not my favourite, but absolute genius.

In the top 5

In the top 5

The one before it (the flick up and volley) is far more spectacular in many ways, and certainly gets shown a lot more.

In some ways, it is the relative obscurity of the Aberdeen goal (that, and of course the absolutely sublime technique it takes to accomplish a finish like that) make it possibly my favourite.
