Apparently, despite the big clubs he's played for I found it interesting that Van Der Sar hasn't won a major trophy for 15 years, which was the Dutch League Title when he was at Ajax.

On the last day of the season during his time with Juve with the title going to the wire, he f*cked up big time twice and Roma took the honours - genuinely bad mistakes; they'll be on Youtube somewhere probably, but I watched the game at the time and seem to remember him letting one in under his body. He was never forgiven for it, his Juve career was effectively over and he hasn't been in the same situation since.

Lo and behold he's been looking decidedly wobbly over recent games, since he took a nasty whack on the nose he seems to have lost a bit of confidence; I think the pressure may be telling a little as well. He without doubt is a top class keeper but if I was a United fan he'd be worrying me a bit.

I swear that Ajax team was cursed. Seedorf's done alright for himself and Davids picked up a few medals at Juve, but on the whole what looked like an outstanding crop of young players have underachieved in their careers.

Apart from Winston Bogarde, of course

Good point about some, but most of them ended up at Barca anyway

GK 1 Edwin van der Sar

DF 2 Michael Reiziger

DF 3 Danny Blind ©

DF 4 Frank Rijkaard

DF 5 Frank de Boer

MF 6 Clarence Seedorf

MF 7 Edgar Davids

MF 8 Jari Litmanen

FW 9 Ronald de Boer

FW 10 Finidi George

FW 11 Marc Overmars

Substitutions:

FW 12 Nw***wo Kanu

FW 13 Patrick Kluivert

I'd say most of them have 'done alright' one way or another

They were an exceptional bunch of players but very few of them achieved their potential. They could have dominated European football for the rest of the decade but most took the money and messed up their careers. Kluivert, for example, should be the best striker in Europe (he's still only 31) but he's ended up a shadow of himself. The over-weight, clearly unfit guy who played against Liverpool just laughable.

Seedorf's done "alright" for himself

Seedorf must be one of the most overrated players ever, it's like Phil Neville having a CL winners medal.

There's nothing wrong with a bit of understatement when it backs up your point.

Ronald De Boer, Finidi George and Michael Reiziger didn't exactly go on to have the careers their early promise suggested, did they? Jari's talent should've led to a more decorated career too. Overmars was unlucky with injuries, or he might have a few more medals to show for himself with Arsenal or Barcelona.

But Kluivert's 31 and Kanu is (officially at least) still only 30. If they'd been fulfilling their potential, they wouldn't have spent the last few seasons knocking about at Newcastle, West Brom, Pompey and PSV's subs bench.

He's a strange one. Yet he's got 3 winners medals with 3 different clubs for a reason. He's a good player, it's not just the knack of being in the right club at the right time. Although I suppose you could argue that getting the opportunity to win it with 3 different clubs suggests he's not a player any of those clubs pulled out all the stops to keep on their books.

That theory doesn't hold though ~ Ronaldo (fat one) has been at so many clubs...?

Because he was so good clubs kept offering silly money for him. Until he got a bit fat and rubbish and was hurried out the door on a free.

This theory is in no way an ill thought out load of cobblers that I'll have bend any facts to support.

Wasn't Bergkamp in that team?

Transferred to Inter by then.

I thought Van der Sar looked shaky against Milan.

I thought he could have done better on certainly the first goal and you could argue he sold himself early on the second goal - although he was fecked by his defence to be fair.

Most overhyped team since Crystal Palace 1979

Anyone questioning Seedorf's ability needs only look at the goals against Bayern.

He is absoloute class when he can be bothered.

OK then he hasn't won a major trophy since he left Ajax, and it's 12 years. Slightly out but it's still a long time!

And I thought he looked hesitent and shaky last night. Should have done better with the first goal, and did his best to let that Kaka long distance shot bounce in over his arms shortly after; that was a serious near miss, it could have gone anywhere when it should have been a comfortable save.
