Bootle Buck Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Once a Red Seems like Anelka really loved his time at Anfield and would still be here if it was up to him. I guess this interview must have been done after he was surgically removed from Sammi's pocket.
Sion Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Would have preferred him to Diouf obviously, but kinda glad we didn't sign him.
Stevie H Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 he's still a sh*thouse. he'll be off from bolton like a shot at the end of the season when they don't qualify for the CL.
johngibo YPC Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Possibly old quotes. I remembered yesterday how he doesn't do alot off the ball. Contrast that with Kuyt. Great first touch though
Earl Hafler Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I thought he and Owen linked very well and we played some brilliant football in the second half of that season but it's 5 years ago, the club has moved on - unlike Anelka. He keeps moving from club to club without leaving his past behind him.
Eiler99 Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 (edited) Of course he still wishes he had signed for Liverpool. He's at Bolton. Edited January 2, 2007 by Eiler99
Guy_Incognito Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 What sort of reception did he get from the crowd yesterday?
Rory Fitzgerald Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I remember at the time being happy that we didnt sign him.
Guest Jude Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Possibly old quotes. I remembered yesterday how he doesn't do alot off the ball. Contrast that with Kuyt. Great first touch though When your a lone striker like he was yesterday you are not expected to do a lot off the ball. Noticed him once running back and taking the ball off one of our players to gain posession for Bolton. Good player who would i have no doubt been a big hit at Anfield if he had got the chance to stay.
fred milne Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I guess this interview must have been done after he was surgically removed from Sammi's pocket. You must be mistaken there, as its a well-known fact that Hyypia can't cope with pacy strikers.
cymrococh Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I was over the moon with him on the pitch while he was here, however I trust Ged and others who tell of his d*ckhead tendencies being his downfall.
smithdown Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 What sort of reception did he get from the crowd yesterday? Pretty much ignored.
Rimbeux Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I was over the moon with him on the pitch while he was here, however I trust Ged and others who tell of his d*ckhead tendencies being his downfall. Didn't stop them going for the other guy though!
stressederic Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 He's a c***. He's got a massive and undeserved ego. His goalscoring record really isn't that impressive. He's still a c***. The one positive is he's not as much of a c*** as Diouf.
Stew F Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 (edited) "What sort of reception did he get from the crowd yesterday?" We were too busy slagging Diouf off to notice him Edited January 2, 2007 by Stew F

kop205 Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 (edited) Well said, can't believe people still want him back. Don't think anyone has said that they want him back. More just a case of acknowledging that he was, and still is, a good player. Although his goal scoring record wasn't great for us (about 5 in 20, around 10 of which were starts I think) I seem to recall a few stories about other players being surprised he wasn't kept on. At the same time, I honestly don't recall any specific stories about his 'd****ead tendencies being his downfall' other than a vague, tenuous tale about one of his brothers acting the big b******s around the place, getting his feet well under the table as a DJ at Baby Blue and generally being a c***. I think McAlister's phrase in the proggy yesterday was that the player himself was 'good as gold' at Anfield. Maybe that wasn't the case, and I know he was detested at City, but someone will need to enlighten me if so. If we'd bought better to replace him he'd be long forgotten. As it was, I struggle to imagine that he would have done worse for us (in any way) than that c***sucker Diouf. No point crying over spilt milk though, and I certainly think there were worse decisions made around that time than not bringing Anelka in, as good player that he is he has done nothing since to suggest that he would have lived up to his talent. Bootle Buck Posted January 2, 2007 Author Posted January 2, 2007 Personally I think he is very streaky. He seems to go on the odd goalscoring run every now and again. To be fair to him though he seems to be played most of the time as a lone striker with little support.
Guest Cameron Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 He gets too much abuse from some Reds even though he did nothing wrong while he was here. Nobody slags off Bellamy even though he was a total a****** at previous clubs but Anelka will forever remain the pariah in the eyes of some, even though he did well enough here.

I'm fairly certain that there is evidence on this very forum of me calling Bellamy a c*** many times in the buildup to his signing. A point of view I still hold. I can support some of our players without liking them. Anelka's Liverpool fanbase seems to be built upon a single performance against Newcastle at Anfield.
KBR Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I think people are missing the part of the club and how it influences players behaviour. Yes he has the tendencies to be a prat at times, but had he stayed, he would have fixed up. He's not a bad player, & would've have become better had he stayed with us, and matured as a person which seems to be his downfall. Obviously you do get the odd c*** like Diouf who is just a prize t** & goes against the grain. Let me ask you all this, do you think Cristiano Ronaldo would be hated as much if he came to Liverpool instead of Man U? I don't think he would've because it's not the Liverpool way for players to dive & act like knobs on the pitch. I reckon he would've been liked by a lot more people as he wouldn't have been exposed to that kind of behaviour at Liverpool. To me Liverpool players seem to behave better and are less troublesome characters. So maybe he would've turned out to be a good player for us, both on & off the pitch.
G Richards Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Anelka is a good player. As it turned out, signing Diouf was a big mistake, and so Anelka's legend grew with our fans because of what might have been. Like others, I find it difficult to imagine that Anelka would have been worse than Diouf. If he had signed permanently, and if he had stayed focused and committed, then we would have had a sensational player. But that's a big if. As it so happens, Anelka's best came when he was a boy at Arsenal. For some reason he has never unleashed his talent in a sustained way since. As for now, onwards and upwards. In Kuyt we have a player with much less natural talent, but I would imagine Dirk will deliver so much more than Anelka. Given our likely budget upturn, we can possibly be going for the likes of Huntelaar or Villa in the summer too.
