A more conciliatory tone was taken later on, then he doubled down and did it again. He is/was a proper c***.

There's a car on our street with a forest sticker in the back window. Think I'll scratch SCAB on the bonnet and Cloughies a c*** on the roof

He apologised when he signed up as a columnist in Four Four Two magazine, and we threatened a boycott. It was purely a commercial decision, and he was purely a c***.

I got a copy of 'Hillsborough - the Truth' to Clough through the editor of 442 at the time, in the lead up to him making that apology.  I doubt that the alky c*** actually read it though.

Always hated him even though I was a little too young to take in the Hillsborough stuff at the time.

Always thought he was a charmless c***.

What a Tory c***. Bet he fecking loved Thatcher

He fancied himself as a massive socialist didn’t he.  Big on being “working class” while obviously taking envelopes of cash and not paying his taxes.

Like all of his kind, when Hillsborough happened he fulfilled his forelock tugging role as the classic establishment lackey putting the boot in rather than experience any discomfort or responding to the alarm.

Me and some of my mates picketed his book signing in Victoria in about 1991 I think. Went up and down the lines talking to the mostly Forest fans (obviously) & trying to get them to bin it off. A few did to their credit, but we got some grief too.

Anyway when he arrived & got out of his car my mate Ian, the nicest and most articulate of us, gave him a letter asking him to rethink his comments on Hillsborough in light of the extra suffering they were causing the families, especially as he carried such sway in the game.

He looked us us with complete disdain and dropped the letter on the floor. Had to hold Ian back, never seen him like that before or since.

Oh no. Proper 'Labour man' by all accounts. Loved associating with a striking miner.

Problem is, when he got told that people in Liverpool weren't likely to buy his book, he literally said 'Half of them can't read and the other half are out stealing hubcaps'.

So yeah, Tory as f***.

Yeah I know, but he would have got nicked and you could imagine the headlines. It was a rare bit of clear headedness on my part.

The look on his face though, will never forget that. Pure contempt & arrogance. It did need punching.

Just checking back it was 1994, and I was 26. Mad innit.

He caused a lot of damage didn’t he. So influential to people’s attitudes.

That hubcup/can't read stuff was literally verbatim what I had to put up with* at Uni - I started in 94 - from posh public school boys.

I say 'put up with' - I actually used to enjoy seeing them s*** themselves and back down when I called them on it cos they were scared of my accent even though I was and am soft as s***.
