Stevie H Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 lots of people in the match thread having a go at him, don't know why. his first merseyside derby, he's still new, he played sensibly i thought. not sure what people were expecting of him in a game like that. he was fine, clearly has a sound football brain and will probably prove to be a shrewd signing going forward.
Chili Palmer Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 I thought his positional sense was spot on, covered his areas and picked a pass when he needed to.

Agree. Good technique and game intelligence. Did fine.
Beardsley Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Really? Thought he was nowhere to be seen all game.
Benzo-13 Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Thought he was good. Got game intelligence and its very easy to see.
Leo No.8 Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 (edited) Thought he did well myself; seems a clever player who keeps the ball, positions himself well defensively and gets into good positions. He played a great ball into N'Gog in the second half, just floated it high to give him the time to run onto it and eventually he had a shot blocked which went for a corner but thought it showed intelligence. Think Maxi will have a habit of getting into scoring postions as well, as his movement is excellent even though he didn't get that many chances today because ot the sending off. I can see why Rafa likes him, he looks exactly his type of player. Edited February 6, 2010 by Leo No.8
Cisse Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Nothing spetacular but had a solid game. Not the most combative but a very intelligent player. He will be very useful for us
Stevie H Posted February 6, 2010 Author Posted February 6, 2010 Really? Thought he was nowhere to be seen all game.most weren't thought, it was a scrap. little football on show. he won his battles in the main and coaxed insua on, who had his best game for a while by the way.
sean Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Think he got to it as it wore on. Can obviously play

Someone has to take the blame, even when we have just had a fantastic win like that. I thought he did OK, they didn't get much down that side of the pitch, did what was asked of him. mrjunk Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 he stepped inside a couple of times later on and looked handy - good vision to get the ball to N'Gog for what became a corner.
stressederic Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 He did alright. Ideally it would have been the type of game where he could have used all his attacking instincts. It didn't turn out like that. Despite that though he still got stuck in and held his position which was important.
Swipe Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Barely touched the ball but had a much better second half. He's clearly a clever player and he'll keep the ball. Once he gets into his stride and, hopefully, finds his goalscoring feet, he should be a shewd addition.

Farmer's Tan Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 didnt do anything wrong, was available and when he got the ball was clever. He didnt do much in an attacking sense but i thought he did well considering
RedMersey Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Clever pass for N'Gog in the second half. First half, he was a ghost. Couldn't see him making a single mistake, and I think he did reasonably well.
madaboutlfc Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 he did not let Phil Neville overlap which was a big plus as it not expose Insua.. He looks intelligent but he is slow.. maybe when we are at our best will be see whether he is an upgrade on Riera or Kuyt on the wings
Snookie Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 What's that? His second start in English football, in a derby game, and he is supposed to do what exactly? Are we getting to the stage where muppets will think its ok to make a judgment about a player performance because they don't like how he stands in the tunnel before kick-off? Thought he was quietly impressive in the second half. As other people have said, he's plainly an intelligent player who helped give the team a cohesive shape, which is something we have lacked all the season. If injuries have not damaged him completely, then he will be an absolute bargain for 1.5 million because the man has the smarts to adapt to the English game. The question is, does he have still have the body?

muleskinner Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Its the warm up that is decisive, it tells us everything we need to know about a player.

His lack of pace looks the only draw-back. Tactically, and technically he looks excellent.
