I reckon of all our wide players he's the only potential superstar. This is somewhat overshadowed by the fact he is rubbish.

 

Tough one but I think he is the player in our squad that could lift us to the next level. Which is worrying being as as stated before he is rubbish.

I expected him to be off in the summer, but I will be happy if he stays. He dropped a few levels last season but still had some highs. This season will make or break him at Anfield.

In our current team, I prefer to see Benayoun, Kuyt, Riera filling 2 of the wide positions. Even Dossena looked like adding more to the team than Babel. Can't remember what player it was said that Babel was the fastest player in the squad. And he hashave some skill too. But he just seems like such a brainless gimp.

Yeah I know those players showed more than him last season. I think if Babel turns into what I think he (and potentially rafa too) could be then he'll be better than them as I think we've seen them all at top whack and they've hit their maximum capacity to deliver.

 

I think if we need a winger out of the top top bracket to emerge from the current squad then only he is going to do that although yossi was triffic last season

I don't think Babel sees himself as a winger, which might partly explain some rather rubbish performances last season. Rafa also indicated that he saw Babel's future more in the middle.

I do think he's a confidence player, but I'm not even sure how much skill he has. He's very quick, and has a hard shot, but it's not like he's a great passer or crosser, and he uses body strength or speed rather than skill on those rare occasions he goes past people with the ball.

Torture, bullying, a spell in prison would have done wonders for him during the close season. Anything to shake him up a bit.

I'd get the best martial arts trainer money can buy and give him hard impact training.

he might just be a slow developer mentally,it might take him longer to see things the way they should be than others in the team,he may need to be told or have to see the same thing over and over and over before it registers.all that matters is that it does register.

 

so in case it is this its good he gets an extra season to show he can learn,couple that with the fact that no one wants to buy him as farr as we can tell and if they did it would most likely be at a huge loss,so really whats their to lose.

I've actually come to the conclusion its just not worth selling him this summer because of the risk involved. We'd get absolutely f*ck all for him after the season he's just had, but he's still young and I worry he'd go elsewhere and be brilliant.

 

Maybe something will click in terms of his decision making - if it did he does still have the physical attributes to be a star. Even though it usually ends in disappointment, I do feel anticipation when he comes on or gets the ball.

 

Fair play to the lad for wanting to stick it out and give it another go this season. I think him making that clear has gone down well with Rafa and thats part of the reason he's still here. Clean sheet for him from me now, hope he comes good this season.

 

He's short of confidence, I think he needs a bit of support from us going into this season. Not because I feel sorry for him or he deserves it or anything like that, but in our own interests it'd give us the best chance of seeing our investment succeed.

Is the fact that he's probably only worth 5 million now the main reason Rafa wants to keep him? I think there could be more to it, because if he shows the form he showed last season, then his value will simply go down further. Rafa would definitely sell him now if he doesnt think that Babel can improve.

 

I'm interested to see what this means for Riera, unless Rafa has no intention of playing Ryan on the left. Especially as Benayoun seems to be the current favourite in that position, with a new contract as well. What happens if we get David Silva? But in this thread it means nought if Babel's not going to play left mid.

 

I can understand why Voronin could be staying, but the Babel situation still confuses me.

No, he really has not. The lad does not have skill, he has raw pace and a powerful shot, that is it.

 

He is next to useless. Needs to make his mind up what position he wants to play in, and then focus on just that.
