He went to an away game against one of the Big Three and played without a defensive midfielder. He kept a left back on the bench, played a right back at left back and played a central midfielder at right back. He has changed a working formation in order to play Heskey, who has been garbage since his debut.

 

He has also made some bizarre decisions, moving players around in matches without reason e.g. taking Knight off and moving Reo-Coker around the backline against Spurs to try and get a back four that would, somehow, fit.

 

There's a reason his teams don't win matches in the latter part of the season. It's because his 'play the same team every week' routine causes them to burn out.

 

Incidentally, this was probably the 'watershed' moiment for Barry. Like Torres when they got thumped by Barcelona, he'll now realise that Villa are miles away from where he needs them to be for his career to progress. He'll be gone this summer.

Barry would still do well here. Won't be at the expense of the glorious Xabi Alonso, but he'd fit in, i reckon.
