Earned about 3 years credit with that game. Lubos Michel has a lifetime, of course.

The first thing you need is to get the big ones right and he did.

Only doing his job? Maybe, but singly or in total we've seen refs who would:

Call a foul by Torres on Vidic in the lead to the first goal.

Give Evra's trip outside the box or call a dive.

Give a free-kick to Man U for Gerrard pulling Vidic.

Dealt with the sending off well too.

Have felt for quite some time he's the best ref in the Premier League.

The fact that he's probably the most old school doesn't say much for modern referees. Had only given out one red card in his previous forty eight games which speaks volumes for his ability to manage players, but got the Vidic one spot on.

As has been said he got every big decision right and handled the game superbly throughout. Last time I said nice things about Alan Wiley he gave a bad decision against us in the next game though so I better shut up!

I don't think anyone said anything but good things about him following Saturday's game, even Sky Sports, Andy Gray and the Mancs themselves couldn't argue he got everything right.

Got all the big ones right i agree. Felt he was giving them alot early second half but that could have been my bias

Passed to them twice though. The second one was scandolous!!

that game should be used by the league as an example of how to referee a big match. he was unfussy but professional and you barely saw him apart from when he had to make big decisions, which he got spot on. round of applause for mister wiley.

Yes good game from Wiley. A shock to find a decent ref there. Hope some more of them find a backbone.

A shock or the direct result of Rafa's referee FACTS that got roundly slated. Rafa reads a list of Ferguson's indescretions and the lenient treatment he gets and we got the first decent referring performace at OT in living memory. Coincidently Ferguson isn't in the press shouting the odds anymore either.

Rafa, has once again, played a blinder.

I was wondering when this would be brought up. Our players did a sound job of hassling the ref whenever they got a chance too.

he certainly was.. not only that, let's not go overboard here.. the display he gave had to be given - the penalty's were nailed on, the sending off was and if those big decisions hadn't have been given he would have been thrust right into the limelight by Rafa and a fistful more of facts..

it says it all about how s*** referee's are in this country when we start a thread on one for actually doing his job.. :D

It didn't seem to have any effect in the interim though.

Webb had an absolute shocker at OT in the Blackburn game and gave them 2 points.

Mind you, he had been getting almost all of the big games and it may have cost him.

Is right. If he hadn't given those decisions it would have got pwopah nawtee. Rafa would have decked someone. As it was he didn't give that one for Torres in the first half.
