Anyone got a spare £70m?

RIBERY WON`T COMMIT LONG-TERM

Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery is refusing to commit himself to the club beyond the end of this season.

The France international has a deal until 2011 but could be a transfer target for many clubs next summer, after recently admitting he did not know whether he would complete his contracted stay.

"There are lots of clubs in Europe who I dream of (playing for)," Ribery told Munich's Tz newspaper.

"Nobody knows what will happen next season. It is far too early to talk about it.

"At the moment, I am not even considering a transfer.

I feel very happy in Munich - the people love me, and I love the fans.

"There is a great atmosphere in the team, and everything is fantastic."

Despite suggestions of interest from Real Madrid, Bayern's general manager Uli Hoeness recently said the 25-year-old is not for sale at any price.

But Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer knows it may be hard to keep hold of Ribery if a serious offer did arrive.

"Clubs cannot hold on to players against their will," he told Premiere television.

"In the end, the player always wins if there is a battle - so if he really wants to move to Real Madrid, then why not?

"Bayern will do everything to keep him. But he does only have a contract until 2011 - and could move before then."

And the german league is really really rubbish.

Buying players based on that is dangerous

Generally true...but Ribery is a classy player who could play in any league IMO...of course expect man city to muddy the waters with a ridiculous bid,,highly unlikely we'd get him even though he's exactly what we need.

I don't rate him all that highly, I've not seen anything that makes me think "wow I'd love him to sign for us". Plus I would imagine he will be massively overpriced.

Same here, he is a good player, but not in the class of Robben/ Ronaldo/ Pennant/ Messi who are probably the best wingers in the world

If he ends up at Real I would love us to go for Robben, I know he is a s***house but when he is on form there aren't many better player

I disagree, he's world class and exactly the sort of player I'd love to see in a red shirt.

How s*** is the german league though?

I agree with Murphman.

RVN played in Holland whilst Larsson played in Scotland and both of them were excellent - the good players always excel and I wouldnt have doubts about Ribery

Larsson has never really proved it in a proper league, he was average at both Barca and united

only really done it in s*** leagues like holland, scotland and sweden

I'd argue that the German league has produced many top defenders in its time. Germany still reach the last stages of most international competitions, and they don't do it playing free flowing attacking football.

So i'd say doing well in Germany against mostly German defenders is 'probably' a good thing. Can't be any worse than the defenders you see playing regularly in the Premiership for the likes of Newcastle etc.

I've watched Ribery for France, he's eye catching, pure quality, one of their best players in a very strong team. I was very surprised when he went to Munich because every club in Europe was looking at him.

I think Ribery would solve our right side.

I doubt we could afford him.

I doubt he'll go for 70 million, probably nearer to 35 million. We could afford that of we make it a priority - that's just a Keane, a Dossena, and a Riera (to use last summer as an example).

He is not worth £35m

I didn't say he was worth it, just that we can afford him. If we consolidate our spending in a given summer we can afford most players. Whether we're willing to do that is another matter.
