Who was the last number 2 to come in and do well as a manager? Bob Paisley? I can't understand why clubs keep doing this.

probably steve mclaren, oddly.

I think I'll place a few quid on Avram Grant.

Considering how Chelsea have been doing this season, perhaps he should be given more credit for his time there last season.

He's quite an irritating interviewee.

Part of that brigade of managers who reckons he's very sophisticated and intelligent and cerebral.

Clearly was out of his depth.

I became too obsessed with his eyebrows to listen to what he said half the time

Can't really judge him as a manager when two key players were sold from under him as soon as he started. Pompey are in serious s***, can see them going down.

He dropped defoe in his first game in charge

Just thinking about it, his first game and his last game as a manager was against us!

You can judge him though, as even his current squad is much better than where they are. He's turned Fratton Park from a place where the top teams were worried about going, into a place where you know you'll be gifted a hat load of chances. Awful manager.

Did he drop him, or was Defoe "ill" i.e. negotiating a transfer away?

I dunno, Campbell and Distin are much better than they showed against us, little you can do as a manager when your two most experienced players start playing like absolute cretins.

I love a bet on the 'next manager market's and have a sure fire of winning - just wait for Sean to give us the tip, well you all know the rest!

He had massive financial issues there as well didn't he?

Not saying he's a great manager like, but it seems he's started jobs only for the clubs to fall apart financially whilst he's there. Though that might not be a co-incidence....

what on earth did the owners expect from him?

the manager sods off to Spurs, takes one of their best players with him and the Pompey owners thought things would go well?

so now, with not that many games left, you put in some temp who will have the unenviable task of turning lead into gold and saving this shower from relegation.
