Bailo Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Not sure if that contract is as forthcoming as we thought, Robbie seems worried now if the latest quotes are to be believed.
smithdown Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 I'm still thinking Cup Final weekend might be when something might be announced. Fans buzzin from the back page news, Robbie bouncing round the team hotel, that kind of thing..?
Stevie H Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 I think he will get it if the demands are modest zero basic salary and twenty grand a goal commission.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 With funny season about to get under way we have 3 candidates for the door;Fowler, Morientes, Cisse. I would also imagine that Rafa has targets in mind. When the waters are a little less muddy then I reckon he will make his decision however I cannot see a reason not to keep him unless we get 3 strikers.
anny road Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 if you read the article its actuall him saying he hopes he gets a new contract.. thats an attention grabbing headline that relates zero to what Robbie actually says Everyone else is running it that Robbie is hopeful of getting e new contract
Christine Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Why would you worry? If he gets a new contract then great, that means Rafa thinks he can still do a job and he?s here for another year. If he doesn?t get a new contract than Rafa obviously doesn?t think he can do a job and so is getting shut. What?s to worry about? Rafa?s call, I?m sure he knows what he?s doing.
Gomez Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 a nothing story from his old mate Haddock. Probably a bit harsh to sacrifice him, would have thought he'd just not give him a new contract. Still Rafa knows best.
Lee W Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 (edited) The Phorum Dunce has been reading too much Maddock. Must have got wind of his 'article' today. Edited May 3, 2006 by Lee W

Guest TanMan Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 zero basic salary and twenty grand a goal commission. I reckon so to, but 30 grand a goal. The money he gets the happier we ALL are.
Guest Kev Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 We will keep Fowler if Cisse and Morientes go. Replacing two strikers is hard, replacing three strikers is damn near impossible.
Flasher Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 I think Rafa's is holding back so as not to turn attention on Moro and Cisse (which would inevitably be the case if he announced Fowler was staying). It's far easier to talk publicly about Fowler's situation than Nando's or Cisse's. Just my opinion like.
Leo No.8 Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Apparently Robbie saw a couple of 23-year olds lurking round Anfield. When he moved to confront them, they ran off at pace, leaving Fowler puffing and panting shouting for them to stop... Draw your own conclusions.

For all I care he could wheel an oxygen tank around the pitch with him, as long as he puts the ball in the net.
Boca Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 The echo has the same story but a different headline. Just goes to show what kind of spin newspapers can put on things. I've done enough for new deal, says Fowler

owenthomas Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 there you go lid.. ROBBIE FOWLER is hopeful he has done enough to warrant a new Liverpool contract - as he underlined his determination to end Anfield's championship drought. The 31-year-old striker still remains in the dark over whether his stay will be extended by manager Rafael Benitez beyond the end of the season.Fowler claims to have already received a number of offers from other clubs for his services, with both Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers previously declaring an interest in the former England international. But the forward has again reiterated his desire to remain at Liverpool and is confident his contribution since rejoining from Manchester City in January - Fowler has scored four goals in his last five starts - means his Anfield appearance in the 3-1 win over Aston Villa at the weekend won't be his last."It was a touching moment for me when the fans were chanting my name at the end of the game, but I hope they don't think it was a send-off for me," said Fowler. "I haven't heard anything about a new contract, but I'm still hoping that Saturday won't be my last game at Anfield for Liverpool. I believe that I have still got something to offer - and I think I've got a few years left in me yet. I've been pleased - and even a bit surprised - with how well it's gone for me since I came back, and I think I can build on that."Fowler points to the number of other offers from Premiership rivals as an indication he can still produce at the highest level. "I've had plenty of interest from other clubs, and I'm told there are some offers on the table, because managers have seen that I can still do it," he added. "Scoring a few goals hasn't harmed me. But all I am interested in is getting a new contract and building on what I have achieved since I came back to Anfield."I've had a terrific time since I came back to Liverpool, and of course I want to stay here. "These are exciting times at Liverpool. Look at what the manager has achieved since he came here, and the progress the club has made. With a couple of decent signings in the summer, there is no doubt the club can challenge for the title next season. You'd have to be mad not to want to be part of that. It has always been my dream to win the league with Liverpool, and I'd love to stay around and give it a real go."Fowler has made 15 appearances since returning to Liverpool, and believes his previously suspect fitness should no longer be called into question. "If I'm honest, I didn't expect to play so many games," he said. "I thought I would be on the bench and get the odd appearance, but I've been involved a lot since I came back, and started far more matches than anyone imagined I would have. I don't think I've done badly either. I've scored a few goals and could have had a few more, but what has pleased me more than anything is the way I have linked up with the team. I think I've settled into the team's style pretty well, and I've created a few things as well. My fitness seems to be the focus for everyone. When I came back it was pretty tough because I'd been out for a while with injury, and I had to work on my fitness. But I'm happy with how it has gone for me and I feel pretty strong. I feel as good as I have done for a long time, and I feel as though I'm definitely getting there. I know my body, I will be the first to recognise when I'm not up to it."

Alonso Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 I think it's between Morientes and Fowler. We all seem pretty certain Cisse's gone and Kuyt seems pretty nailed on. If that happens that would leave us with a very pedestrian foward line with little "possibilities". If we are to bring in another quicker striker who fits the bill of a "20 goal a season man" then it'll be either to replace Fowler (who's contract expires) or Morientes (who would be sold). IMO I'd prefer to see Morinetes go as he offers similar things to Crouch and Kuyt who would be the "big guy holding things up". You'd then have Fowler for his finishing and predetory instincts (not to mention his link up play) along with AN Other (Owen?) who offers pace in behind the defence with an eye for goal.
Fagan Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 why does kuyt seem nailed on? i think that rafa will tell robbie before the cup final if hes staying or not. if its between moro and fowler then robbie has to get it, his performances have been better than moro's and a solid pre-season will make him a much better and fitter player than he is now
