D.Boon Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Well done to Kelly. I thought he was absolutely outstanding tonight, given the curcumstances. Showed some of his senior team mates a bit of nouse, ability and fight.
Cheesecake Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 (edited) agree - a single bright spark in a hail of dullness. Shame he's a RB, could he do a job in the centre of defence?Thoght he was a f***ing stand out for 70 mins til he got injured Edited October 20, 2009 by DPD1973
D.Boon Posted October 20, 2009 Author Posted October 20, 2009 agree - a single bright spark in a hail of dullness. Shame he's a RB, could he do a job in the centre of defence? On tonights evidence he could do a job in most of the outfield positions
Paul Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Yep, he played well - put in some good crosses aswell.
matlfc Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Didnt he put the cross in for aurelio when their keeper knocked it over? great save but head it down ffs.
Maldini Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 He's actually a CB who can do a job at RB rather than the other way around.
Lark Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I'm led to believe that he has regularly played centre half at u18 level. He just ticks all the boxes, strong, tall, quick, good feet and if he plays as good at centre half as he played at right back tonight we have an imense talent on our hands.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 got to look at the positives from tonight......and recent weeks.... we don't have to pay any clean-sheet bonuses
Nebraska Red Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 got to look at the positives from tonight......and recent weeks....we don't have to pay any clean-sheet bonuses and with the lack of effort, kit cleaning costs shud be down. seriously, Kelly was a bright spot, maybe we can play Johnson in midfield and leave Kelly at RB for a while?
Toni Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 and with the lack of effort, kit cleaning costs shud be down. seriously, Kelly was a bright spot, maybe we can play Johnson in midfield and leave Kelly at RB for a while? completely agree. kelly seems confident, he s 20 years old. ready for some first team action. johnson can amend the furiously most obvious lagging charateristic in our team, which is the consistent ability to beat the opposing full-back down the line.
Zoob Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I'm not going to get carried away, because both young and old players can provide false hope. But there is something about Kelly that just looks quietly assuring - decent reading of the game, good technique - put in a couple of very, very good crosses... all very promising. To play like that, in such a turgid and horrible display was in stark contrast to Spearing against Sunderland (in another horrid team display), who for all his heart and effort just seems unlikely to make it at the top level. One thing though - I couldn't bear to watch their first goal again, but I think that Kelly was playing the Lyon guy onside for their goal
Maldini Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Nah, the Lyon lad was behind about 4 of our players
Red Kent Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 (edited) I posted this back in August http://www.ynwa.tv/forum/index.php?s=&...t&p=2425615 I think we'll just have to have faith in Ayala and Kelly. But apparently Kelly has leap frogged Darby for the right back position. After last night we now know why. Is he local ? Edited October 21, 2009 by Kev
Beardsley Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Kelly looks a great prospect, doesn't he? The few times I've seen him, he looks very composed, have decent speed, good positioning and defending. Apart from the first few minutes yesterday, the Lyon players didn't get anything from his side. High hopes for the lad.
redjersey Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 He did really well. A top young player. Should fetch a couple of million when the fire-sale starts.
richwilks Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Looked a top player and with games under his belt is sure to improve. The one real bright spark from last night, he's incredibly quick, assured on the ball, confident, good in the air and he is very strong in the tackle. Would love to see him getting more games. He's also an excellent left back apparently, thats where he played on loan last season.
anny road Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 he did well the cross for Aurelio was amazing
dorgie Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Is it too early to make comparisons with Gerrard's introduction to the team ?
Flasher Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Kelly did well, but was clearly a CB being asked to play RB. Well done to the lad. I also thought Mascherano's passing was a bright spark on a dark night.
stressederic Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 His cross for Aurelio looked a goal all the way. Can't believe we didn't score from that.
johngibo YPC Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Don't think we should get too carried away. But he did wellWhen i went to the acadamy towards the back end of the season one of the coached told me to watch out for Martin Kelly. He said he thought he was the best defender at the club!
stressederic Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Also worth noting that he was really unfortunate not to clear their equaliser off the line. He got done by the bounce on it.
JRC Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 It didn't stop some bright spark in the Moan Stand bellowing insults and calling him fit to burn for a misplaced pass early in the 2nd half....some of our fans deserve a serious slap. tbf, the muppet got loads of stick from the fans around him and shut up quickly
Maldini Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I posted this back in August http://www.ynwa.tv/forum/index.php?s=&...t&p=2425615 I think we'll just have to have faith in Ayala and Kelly.
