Fair play to the man. I've always liked him - from his no-nonsense physical approach to the game, to his insisting on playing for his home-town club and turning the Mancs down to do just what he said (Pretty much a unique thing among todays footballing 'superstars') - I think he's always conducted himself well.

And his comments after the match yesterday regarding Barton's "tackle" and the result of the game - fair play to the lad.

Comes across as having integrity, honesty and a bit of humbleness about football that most don't appear to have nowdays.

Would have loved to see him play for Liverpool to be honest. Seems a top bloke.

His occasional sneaky use of the elbows and the head-kicking incident with Neil Lennon prevented me from becoming a huge fan. But kudos to him for his reaction to the taunts from The Kop yesterday. I can't imagine Messers Ferguson and his lapdog Allardyce being so sporting

Seemingly good bloke, obviously awful manager.

Not sure you can blame Shearer for the team that others have built, they looked awful long before he came in. Will be better judged if he stays next season(if they stay up)and gets his own players in.

Not sure I would have liked the manager of my almost-relegated team getting up off the bench to have a drawn-out and ostentatious chuckle at 2-0 down.

I'm sure I remember reading on here that Ged was close to signing him from the Geordies at one point....

Anyone remember that?

Thommo mentions it in his autobigraphy. Says Ged thought he had a chance of getting him but Thommo suspects they were just using Liverpool to get the contract they wanted from Newcastle

Barton has been suspended from Newcastle indefinately, apparently after a confrontation with Shearer after the game. I think Shearer would be the only winner in that spat.

He called him a coward apparantley.

A little smile or hand raise to the Kop would have been sufficient. The prolonged smile and shake of the head just looked sad and desperate to appear cool. Why stand up at that point, for the first time in 20 minutes, and do nothing?

He has the look of a lost man. He has less aura as a manager than Southgate. He tried being clever with his formation; you could see he'd thought of something rather than the obvious 442. But that was it - he thought "yep, I've come up with something, we're bound to win. Rafa won't have any plans to counter my masterplan". It just shows that management these days takes a great strategist; someone who can delve deep and consider thousands of possibilities - much like a chess grand master.

At one point on Sunday, just after the 2nd goal, he was making hand gestures to his defenders (possibly about getting closer to their man or how far offside the 1st goal was). None of them looked to him but he went round each one. He then turned to Dowie and turned back to where he defenders had been - they and the linesman had moved up 10 yards but he carried on with the instructions to absolutely no-one.

Unless he was aiming it at someone in the Lower Centenary.

Everyone knows which club his heart belongs to, but there's f*ck all else he can possibly do with that shower of rubbish.

It was a great chant, and he knew it. I think he has a lot of respect for Liverpool and the fans.

Not having all this that there's nothing he could do with this squad, just cos he's got nothing out of them. There are enough players in there to get more than the occasional 0-0 draw in a relegation run in. Colin Warnock would have got more out of them than Shearer.

they've had three tactially inept managers in one season though. that must be some kind of record.
