7) Scott Carson (Leeds to Liverpool, £7.5m, 2005)

Rafa Benitez took an expensive punt on one of Britain’s brightest goalkeeping prospects despite him having played just three times for Leeds. At least Carson managed to treble that tally for Liverpool before being shunted out on loan to Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton and Aston Villa before finally limping off to West Brom last summer for just £3.25m.

HAHAHAHA !! Boy you'd wonder why these c**** get paid for crap like this.

In what way was the Morientes transfer worse than Boumsong, Parker or Cohen

At least he contributed to the team in a good way a little bit, unlike them three failures

Fvckin Daily Manc strikes again.no mention of Beattie to the Bitters, or Jarosik and Ivanovic, to Chelsea for £5m and £9m respectively.

didnt we buy two £6m keepers in the same window, or is my memory a bit shoddy.

Dudek and Kirkland where bought the same window. Can't remember the fees though  Wasn't Dude about £4.5m?

What a bloody idiot. He didn't do the most rudimentary research and his Scott Carson premise is a lot of self-confident b*llocks as a result.

I'd sack him for that to be honest.

Amazing, he has changed it!

Interestingly he know regards 750k as an "expensive punt" and has removed the fact we made over £2 million profit on one of the top 10 worst transfers.

FLMAO.

LOL - he should just take him off the list, as we also got approx £2m from Villa in loan fees, so that's around a £3.5m profit. Add the fact we did'nt have to pay his wages for most of the time we had him as he was on loan for large periods and due to the fact he has gone on to play for England - than for an intial transfer fee of 750K there's no way he should be on that list.

 They've changed the transfer fee, left " expensive punt " in and edited out the money received because it makes a mockery of the whole point !

f***ing ludicrous and typical of the s*** paper.

Hi - thanks very much for your email.

And, yes, well spotted. Unfortunately an erroneous version of that article was originally published by mistake.

Blame human error; blame a shortage of staff at this time of year; or blame gremlins in the work.

But please don't blame this on some sort of pro-Manchester United/anti-Liverpool agenda.

You'll doubtless be pleased to know that the correct version was uploaded this morning and, caching issues aside, should now be visible to the world.

Happy New Year.

Subject Scott Carson to Liverpool

Hi Dan

Nice to see Journalist doing their homework again (especially the Daily Manc)

Scott Carson cost Liverpool 750,000 not 7,5 million.

The entire Liverpool FC online community waits for a retraction…which I doubt will ever come from your lovely paper.

You also neglected to do some more research into transfers involving Chelsea and Everton during the same period. Surely James Beattie to Everton a few years ago, or Jarosik and Ivanovic, to Chelsea for £5m and £9m respectively?

Have a great new year!

So why leave it in if the whole point was that it was a spectacular waste of money and a £4m loss ? Why then leave in " expensive punt " and remove the transfer fee received ?

And Morientes won the FA Cup and was probably influential in our CL win - he'd won the tournament before, won titles at Real Madrid and that sort of experience is invaluable.

How in f***s name can he be rated a worse buy than the £8m Boumsong ?

Garbage

f***ing laughable that.

We paid £750,000 for Carson, got £1M off Charlton, £2M off Villa, £3.25M off West Brom and didn't have to pay his wages for two of the years he was here. In actual fact, I'd consider Carson one of our best transfers, especially when you consider that he went on to play, albeit not well, for England and we made a hell of a lot of money out of him.

And Morientes second? Seriously?

Ridiculously bad. That and Cascarino's recent article demonstrate why the media in this country can't be taken seriously.

The majority doesn't really give a flying f***, so I doubt the entire community are waiting for anything.

Gave enough to reply to this though ;)

Its from a little while ago, and the fee didn't turn out to be as big, but The Times actually had Carson in their Best January transfers.

The Times

The truth lies somehwre in between their list and the Mirrors - though a lot closer to The Times one in fairness.

Agger, Skrtel and Mascherano were bought in January, as was Arbeloa I believe, which is just f***ing great business.

Rafa's done good with January transfers.
