Steven Gerrard has been ruled out of England's friendly with Germany in Berlin on Wednesday after suffering an injury during yesterday's 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers.

Liverpool FC spokesman Ian Cotton said: "Steven picked up an injury in yesterday's game at Bolton.

"A scan this morning has confirmed a tear in the adductor magnus muscle in his right leg, and he is expected to be out between seven to 10 days."

Is Torres in the Spain squad?

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12010_4500443,00.html

See if you can get a clear cut answer from SkySports :D

-----------------------------------------------------------

Spain boss Vicente del Bosque will use an upcoming friendly against Chile to experiment with his squad.

Valencia's promising playmaker Juan Mata and Athletic Bilbao's Fernando Llorente will both be given an opportunity to impress for the first time after their inclusion in a youthful set-up.

Mata is a product of the famed Real Madrid academy while Llorente is a powerful striker who possesses all the physical attributes required to be a success on the international stage.

With established stars such as Andres Iniesta missing through injury and Andoni Iraola, Fernando Navarro and Diego Capel all omitted, Del Bosque is delighted to have been handed an opportunity to run the rule over his promising youngsters.

"We want to take this chance to have a closer look at (Mata). He is a player that is in good form, an U21 player, and we think that this is a good time to move him up," the experienced coach told Marca.

Llorente's inclusion is regarded as more of a surprise than Mata's, but Del Bosque revealed that he wants to have a number of tactical options available to him.

"There were several options and I have chosen him because he is also playing well," he continued.

"We have plenty of cover, but both (Fernando) Torres and (Dani) Guiza have had knocks recently so we thought Llorente would give us something extra.

"Besides he deserves it for having such a good season and he will give us an alternative to try."

Del Bosque was also keen to explain that he does not intend to rush Torres back into action too soon as the Liverpool man has only recently recovered from a knock sustained while on international duty.

"We have to take care of Torres," he added.

"We are not going to force anyone to come and make them play when they are not fit. He played for Liverpool this week and therefore could have joined us, but we want to ensure that nothing happens."

Full Spain squad for their friendly date with Chile on Wednesday 19th November:

Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Jose Reina (Liverpool).

Defenders: Raul Albiol (Valencia), Alvaro Arbeloa (Liverpool), Joan Capdevila (Villarreal), Juanito (Real Betis), Carlos Marchena (Valencia), Carles Puyol (Barcelona), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid).

Midfielders: Xabi Alonso (Liverpool), Santi Cazorla (Villarreal), Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal), Xavi (Barcelona), Juan Manuel Mata (Valencia), Albert Riera (Liverpool), Marcos Senna (Villarreal).

Forwards: Dani Guiza (Fenerbahce), Fernando Llorente (Athletic Bilbao), Fernando Torres (Liverpool), David Villa (Valencia).

So that clears that up

Personally think Torres needs the game time so as long as Spain only play him for 30-45 min then he should benefit from playing. His injury has cleared up otherwise he wouldn't be playing for us so the only risk is one of fatigue if he played 90min for Spain which wont happen looking at those quotes.

But i don't see a problem with him getting some match fitness, he certainly needs it.

The way I read it was to include the 3 paragraphs above those you put in bold. That suggests, yes he's in the squad, but I have extra strikers and he is unliely to play a part.

If Torres comes back from Spain injured again, I'm going to buy an axe and head for Madrid.

I think you may have to push Rafa out of your way first ;)

If memory serves me right, of the 3 times he's been injured while on international duty, 2 were injuries picked up while training, and one was pretty close to the start of the game (making Benitez question the training methods being used). So if he can get through training and get 30 mins of game time, that would be great. But based on past experience, it's just the mere being with the Spain team and training with them that has repeatedly broken him...

England Matches are good, lots of rival players to get injured, whilst we just worry about Gerrard

It's Spain matches that f*** me off nowadays

Robbie Keane has returned from Dublin to Liverpool after pulling out of the Ireland squad with a shoulder injury.

Carrying that massive chip has finally caught up with him.

Just been reported on MOTD2 that Gerrard still has to turn up to have his injury assessed by England (along with John Terry), obviously the manc duo of ferdinand and rooney don't have to. Its ridiculous why accept the word of one club and not that of another, particularly given the frequency of the manc players missing friendlies.

What the f*** is the point of the friendlies this week, they are pointless, bizarrely the only ones who seemed to get the balance sorted were Scotland under walter smith who a couple I remeber on at least one occassion had a squad get together for a couple of days rather than playing a pointless friendly. Seems the best way as keeps the clubs on side and stops players picking up injuries.

Alan Green was saying on 5 Live today, why bother with a friendly where players are kept back because of suspect injuries..........but if there was just a training get together players would be there, have to agree, its pointless this friendly apart from the German FA and the England (we need world cup votes) FA maybe making a few bob out of it
