New York Red Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 But I'm starting to think that Anelka would be a good signing for us. I've always hated him. Great talent, complete sc*mbag. Burned club after club. Someone would be left holding the bag after paying a sh*tload for him and I didn't want it to be us. Is it my imagination, but is he in the form of his life and has he matured a lot?
Gunga Din Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 i cant believe you are thinking it either. he is a trouble maker and is always offside. he's hardly setting the world alight at Bolton either

Hassony Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Much prefer Dean Ashton myself.we should have gone for ashton when he was still at crewe, he always looked like becoming a class player
Crazy Horse Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I'm relieved - I thought you might be thinking of getting rid of Rafa and bringing in Mourinho. I'm sure some people are.

He probably is - but he's keeping it for another 'look at me' thread for another day. And with that, I bid thee g'night!

crisps Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 (edited) Doesn't seem to have caused any problems at Bolton, he's in his prime and a quality player and scored more goals this season than the rest of the Bolton team have put together. I'd be happy with Quaresma and Anelka in Jan ...and CB cover! Edited October 4, 2007 by crisps
Guest Kaizer Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I'd be happy with Quaresma and Anelka in Jan ...and CB cover! Quaresma alone would do me, sell Crouch and move Babel up front. We have Carra, Agger, Hyypia and Arbeloa for CB, I dont see it as something urgent before the summer.
Red_Rob Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 some crazy bint on the radio last night thought so f*** that. We already dodged that bullet once......

Never put a foot wrong when he was here either, and hasn't since going to Bolton either. He signed a new contract there to, which is the probably first time he's ever done that.

Arrogance, selfishness, ego, first touch, finishing and pace. My perfect striker.

johngibo YPC Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 played well for us once. one match. thats b******s
honourablegeorge Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 played well for us once. one match. Best we ever played under Houiller was towards the end of that season, the newcastle game, the Ipswich hammering, we wre on fire. All we needed were two Senegalese half-wits and the new Zidane, and the title was ours.
cymrococh Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 two Senegalese half-witsthat made me laugh an inordinate amount.
John am Rhein Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 played well for us once. one match. Far more than that. And I think the best thing he brought to us at that time was an ability to move the ball very fast to the other end of the field and still retain possession of it. Not by doing anything particularly special, but just by running forward with the ball under control. This opened up a lot of games for us where our need to sit very deep previously and subsequently made the distance between attack and midfield almost unbreachable.

Totally agree with this John, he turned us into a differnt team under Houllier - I don't have the stats on it but I'm absolutely certain our record with Anelka in the side was exceptionally good. Largely as you say because his ability to run with the ball stretched the game creating more space for other players, and he enabled us to move the ball forward far more quickly. I think our front quartet would be more balanced with two quick strikers and two workers. I've always been a defender of Crouch, but seeing as he clearly can't deal with not being first choice I don't feel guilty anymore by saying I'd sell him to fund a move for Anelka. I'm just not comfortable with the lack of pace any combination not involving Torres leaves us with. As for the personality side of Anelka, I'm really not bothered that he's a w*nker if he does the business on the pitch. He didn't make any trouble here, clearly loved playing for Liverpool and hasn't caused any problems at Bolton either. He's grown up a bit, but even if he hadn't who cares? It's hardly as if he's going to cause any major disruption realistically is it? I think he'd be appreciative of another (possibly last) chance with the type of club his ability deserves and that he'd flourish here. He could play with any of the other strikers at the club as well - I think Anelka and Torres would be a fantastic partnership, loads of pace and movement. Edited October 5, 2007 by Leo No.8
