chrisbonnie Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 im going to get slated for being a moan, or whinging even though we won, but i dont think anyone stood out enough to warrant man of the match
Kite Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 1) Finnan for me - that last ditch saving tackle against Micoud, for example, was top drawer, otherwise was moping up stuff all night that side yet still always getting forward too. 2) Momo got better as the game went on (had a terrible first half though). 3) Garcia for the goals, both extremely well taken.
Guest Portly Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 The newspapers usually make Gerrard man of the match, whether they have seen the match or not! Tonight I thought that Gerrard really was man of the match. He's not getting much support from Alonso this season - Alonso's form is quite worrying.
Spike Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 1) Momo - He isn't boss, he f***ing bosses. Created the platform for a good performance defensively and offensively from thos around him. 2) Kuyt - Pressured them into so many situations, great movement etc again. Brings the crowd up with his will to shoot, and every bit of his game. 3) Reina - didn't panic and was 100% in everything that was asked of him. I put him my top 3 as MOM as in a quiet game it's tough. When you are being hammered it's easy to look the dogs (ref: Ged buying Kirkland after his performance)
growler Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 gotta be finny. He has a huge job playing behind ste, especially as he wanders off inside so many times.
Spike Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 sorry but with Stevie G in front of him there was too much space for Finnan to cover a lot of the time as SG did what he does best. First time he doubled up was when Pennant came on. Admirable defensive game no doubts at all but MOM? Even if his challenge having run from one side of the box to the other was Carraesque. As a lass once said to me, one great bit of 10 second tackling, even going all across the box, does not a 90 minute performance make.

With Stevie G roaming, Finnan was more exposed yet never looked troubled at all, or particularly exposed, and kept a good attacking edge throughout the game getting to the edge of the box on occasion and delivering good balls into the area. Plus made that tackle (no-one's suggesting that's the only reason he should be MOM) which, if he hadn't, could have changed the complexion of the game entirely . He simply had an excellent game over the entire 90 minutes compared to, say, the like of Momo who got better as the game went on but was horrible in the first half. But then again I've just noticed above someone has put Gerrard in their top three - no accounting for what people see in a performance
