Whn did we sign Nabil El Zahr?!

I dont think we have officially. Theres a dispute at the moment about his former/current club St.Ettiene claiming someone owes them money for him and wont "release" hime, but FIFA have said he can play for us...

something like that anyway :bleh:

Just seen it on SSN, Dudek had every right to punch the forward, awful dangerous challenge.

I presume that means Jerzy gets a 3-match ban?

David Martin on the bench then?

Guess so. Does Reina start the Carling Cup match as well then, or is Martin anywhere near ready for that yet?

How'd that lad stay on the pitch after that? Very dangerous challenge.

Was it a proper punch or a stupid slap?

Quick match report - bit vague but there you go!

:D

The game started quite brightly with both teams moving well and finding space with a fairly full ground (5,500) - each edge of the pitch stands (North and South) were pretty much full - with the end stands being mainly empty.

Both sides pressed and Everton got a fortunate free kick awarded. The resulting kick taken by Molyneux was an absolute cracker - the perfect free kick which sailed over the wall and into the top corner of the net - Dudek stood no chance whatsoever.

There were quite a few meaty challenges and the Referee had quite a decent game until the 70th minute.

The right back for Everton should have been booked for a late and terribly cynical challenge - but no yellow card was awarded and then the diving began - a few Everton players reacting angrily to nothing tackles.

Liverpool had been awarded two penalties - our number 9 (Nabil El Zhar) slotted it home after an excellent game - moving and passing well - but Zenden missed the second one. Both penalties were obvious and even the bitter a****** who was sat behind us whining at the 'decisions we were getting' had to admit that.

The big moment in the match came where their number 10 (Anichebe) (After spending most of the game shirt pulling and diving and moaning and getting away with it) ran in at Dudek - Dudek easily beat him to the ball and yet the number 10 decided to follow it up with his studs up and his leg straight right into Dudeks face. Dudek quite rightly t****** him - and then Hibbert ran in and punched Dudek - a full scale melee occurred and it was about 3 or 4 minutes before order was restored. Dudek was quite rightly sent off - you can't do that - the number 10 was unbelievably fortunate to stay on the pitch after that challenge and Hibbert didn't even get a yellow.

Liverpool seemed justifiably pissed off with this decision and really upped the tempo - but then a second Everton goal came as Martin was trying to get into his stride. Liverpool pressed and pressed and had several chances where they got around the back of the Everton defence but it wasn't to be. Even an idiotic Richard Wright inexplicably picking up an obvious backpass and giving an indirect free kick away about 8 yards from the goal line didn't make a difference.

All in all a well contested game with some promising moments for the Liverpool side - but a draw would have been a much fairer result and Everton could well have been down to 9 or even 8 men.

ratings:

Dudek 7 - Did well - no chance with the first goal. Not on the pitch for the second. Nice punch lad

James Smith 8 - Worked well and showed promise and crisp one-two passing and some nice invention

Stephen Warnock 8 - Played very well - unlucky not to bag a late minute equaliser

Godwin Antwi 7 - Strong and physical - but needs to cut out his constant whining when things don't go for him

Gabriel Paletta 7 - Very strong got stuck in. Absolutely cynically took out Hibbert towards the end of the game - a real beauty as revenge for the punch?

David Mannix 6 - Showed some promise - but had a quiet game on the whole

Ryan Flynn 5 - Seemed quite quiet to me

Boudewijn Zenden 7 - Cocked up the penalty - missed a host of chances - dragging them all wide. Some nice touches - but wasn't his day

Fabio Aurelio 5 - Very quiet

NABIL EL ZHAR 9 - My LFC Man of the match - Looks very very promising - some nice moves and touches. One for the future hopefully

Dany Guthrie - 8 - Played well - good passing and tried to get involved everywhere

SUBS

David Martin 6 - Had just come on when the first goal went in - did some OK stuff

Robbie Threlfall 6 - Didn't really seem to get into the game - some good stuff but fairly hit and miss

Mannix has been out with a broken foot I think since the New Year so this was his first run out in a long time.

Sounds like El Zhar is a good prospect.
