In my opinion it was 2 points lost. They were there for the taking today, they gave the ball away so much in the first 30 minutes it was incredible. Hate to say it, but it was back to the scenario of the last couple of seasons, we get possession but make nothing of it. No pace upfront, midfield players concentrating on holding the lines for defensive duties and not running beyond Crouch/Voronin or taking wide positions to cross the ball. Worringly, Arbeloa got skinned a few times today and Benayoun looked no better than a squad player. I still think we'll go close to winning the league. I agree with others Torres/Kuyt looks the best combo upfront by a mile.

True. That's exactly what I thought. I think Parry and Moores went on record as saying that game was the main motivation behind going for Benitez. I watched the Derby game on TV in Egypt (no sound to corrupt my thoughts) and the main thing that struck me about Liverpool was how hard we work when we haven't got the ball, how quickly we close the opposition down. But conversely, how shoddy some of our passing can be. I know we won 6-0 but with Rafa you get the feeling that he still thinks Liverpool are a work in progress. If his Valencia days show anything, it is that he subscribes to the Shankly/Paisley philosophy of Pass and Move. That night at Anfield we couldn't get the ball off them and they were (as a team) sublime in defensive and forward play.

Rafa knows how to play attractive football alright. Anyone who saw Valancia destroy Liverpool at Anfield a few years back will testify to that. I for one have rarely seen a football team play like that, even when Liverpool were at their best in the 70s and 80s. I just hope I see Rafa achieve here what he did there. It was a joy to watch
