meredithmathieson Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Immaculately observed in 'The Crosby'. Nothing was said beforehand, the pub just naturally fell into silence, and there were a lot of people in there. I've never seen that before. Odd experience, but touching. The same in other ale houses?
magneto Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Same here, all the way in Johannesburg (Grand Slam in Edenvale). Obviously we had the moment's silence on Monday night but yesterday as well.
Antynwa Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 (edited) I know it's no laughing matter, but seeing the sombre looking Arsenal dinosaur join in, nearly made me laugh. Fair play to Walcott because I don't think I'd be able to contain myself. Quite Surreal Edited April 18, 2011 by Antynwa
Red Kent Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Was mentioned in the pub. There is a time and a place for stupid fluffy mascots and the centre of the pitch during a minutes silence is not one of them.
sutty Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Seriously. Why? It's actually funny. In the dictionary next to the word incongruous there should be this picture
JRC Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I'm sure it was mentioned at the time, but City fans did their bit to perfection last Monday, especially as it was one of the longest pre-silence perorations. Not sure they didn't start the applause for the Soldier as well. I too felt uncomfortable at finding the presence of the Dinosar - head bowed - so risible.

D.Boon Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 (edited) Yesterdays and the City game were brilliantly done, well done to both sets of their fans. The dinosaur is an odd one. Edited April 18, 2011 by D.Boon
Mike Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Seriously. Why? It's actually funny. In the dictionary next to the word incongruous there should be this picture if i was walcott i'd put in a transfer request for that. the ultimate insult.
gulaman Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 It was a nice touch by Arsenal to have a tribute to Hillsborough up on their screen, but I don't know what they were thinking by having that mascot join the players in the centre circle. Seemed really odd and I actually found it a bit funny when it was supposed to be a sombre moment. Cockney weirdos.
_00_deathscar Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Is it normal to look at that picture and laugh? Because I really can't stop laughing [first time I've seen it]. I know of the occasion etc...but that's just ridiculous.
David Hodgson Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 That's what I thought Nothing says respect like a sombre looking green dinosaur The way it bowed it's head. I'm sorry but that was just stupidly funny.
Leo No.8 Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Thats not a mascot, its Wenger's latest wonderkid Francois Le Croc - he's only 15 but is on the bench already.
Benitez Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 reading comments elsewhere suggests the mascot was about to leave the pitch, but then the referee wanted to get the minutes silence observed. So I guess he had to stay, or look even worse trying to leave the pitch! It does look strange, but fair play to him really for doing all he could do and trying to be respectful while dressed as a big green fluffy dinosaur. No easy task. Fair do's to the Arsenal players and fans, Fabregas and Wiltshire had comments on their Twitter accounts about Hillsborough too which was class.
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 The minute's silence for David Rocastle:

I quite like Arsenal as a club, just a shame about Wenger being such a bellend.
Bo Benn Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Bizarre. I can't bring myself to be angry at Arsenal for this - the club and their fans have been nothing but supportive as far as I know. And yes, I could help myself but to laugh at this as well. And why oh why does Arsenal have a dinosaur as a mascot? A bit like LFC would have a pelargonium as our mascot.
Leo No.8 Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 A bit like LFC would have a pelargonium as our mascot. I have one of those as a pet.

Probably also stayed on to pay respect to their director Danny Fiszman, Who passed away in the week.
