I was watching the "6 minutes of madness" at lunchtime on LFC TV and it occurred to mer - how the feck did we manage to win that when you look at our team (Traore et al) and then their team of absolutely fantastic players - Shev, Crespo, Kaka, Maldini, Nesta, Stam, Pirlo, Gattusso, Seedorf etc etc.

 

It is still quite astounding, apart from the fact that we were 3-0 down

It's fair enough to think we may/could have beaten them. But after going 3-0 down?

our team wasnt that bad at all. theres probably about 5 or 6 of them would get into our first team now. we had a good solid team, yes, we had a few poor players, Traore and maybe Baros, but it wasnt a team of cloggers by any stretch

Tbf, they were overconfident at the start of the second half, and were shellshocked after we started scoring. Didi was instrumental, and moving Gerrard to right back at 3-3 was genius.

I think Didi, Riise, Sami, Finnan, Xabi would all defo get into the current team and make us better, maybe Garcia but he's probably comparible to Maxi. Obviously Gerrard and Carra are still here so thats nine. It was a good side but incomparible to Milan's team.

 

It was a proper miracle - the clearest example of fate and 'meant to be' you could ever find.

 

PS I forgot Xabi originally - how could I?

Assuming Kewell was fit, that would be my choice. Wouldn't need Kuyt's work rate with Finnan, Didi, Alonso and Gerrard supporting Maxi.

 

Great team that, but also very slow. When was the last time we had a quick team? Quick thinkers, yes, but no real pace.

Babel is the new Kewell - never mind how much he flatters to deceive - people always seem to think that the next game will be the game he turns in the performance that he promised. Kewell was awesome for the 1st 6months he was here, thereafter he was average. He had some good games in the run up to Athens but that was it.

Garcia has scored many more important goals than Maxi. He had the knack of hitting the back of the net often, how I miss that!

That Milan team though - everyone is a winner!! And a top class one at that!! We had mainly decent players - they had top notch world class players. Still feck 'em
