psl Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I know that some of this has been mentioned in other threads but thought it was worth posting in full. Love the bit at the end. http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8...5499620,00.html BENITEZ TELLS REDKNAPP AND TORRES TO STAY QUIET Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has told Fernando Torres and the club's critics to stay quiet. Irritated by the response given in the media to Sunday's defeat at Tottenham, a prickly Benitez also admitted his concern on Tuesday at the growing number of verbal spats Torres has become embroiled in with opposing defenders. Benitez said: "I have told him that he has to stop this. He knows he has to improve this aspect of his game and that the way forward is to respond to any intimidation by scoring. "Sometimes it is not easy to deal with everything opponents do but he knows he must deal with it in a different way. "In his first season, he was really focused and I think he will be again now. He is a star now and defenders are really worried about him but that is part of his game these days." According to The Independent, 'Benitez was irritated by suggestions that the loss of the departed Xabi Alonso was a principal factor in their shambolic first-half display at Tottenham. The time to make a fair judgement, he said, was when Alonso's replacement, Alberto Aquilani, regained fitness in the autumn.' The newspaper claims his retort was focused on the comments of Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp who disparaged Benitez's team in the wake of their defeat at White Hart Lane. "It is easy for these so-called experts to talk about the game when they don't see the training," Benitez responded. "Aquilani is a player of quality and any manager in Italy will talk about the passes he can give to Steven Gerrard. But it is easy for people to criticise on television; they have never managed a team that has lost a game - or won one."
Stevie H Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 lovely comment. redknapp's a vacuous f***ing a*sehole.
Bailo Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Could also be directed at Andy "never dared manage" Gray as well.
Swipe Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Redknapp is one of the biggest c**** on earth. f***ing hate him.
Bailo Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 The whole of Sky Sport's football presentation is now totally stagnant. No innovation, no new faces or voices. Redknapp is the de facto idiot in the studio, no dissenting voices from the s**** Keyes peddles. They seem to think plugging Kasabian over Moloko in the Ford adverts and changing the SSN music is enough freshening.

Sheringham has been my pick as the dimmest pundit out there, but Hoddle is going to give him a run for his money i think.
richwilks Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Last season Xabi Alonso got very few plaudits for his performances and we were a team who reliend solely on Gerrard and Torres. This season Xabi Alonso is some kind of Mecca who ran our team single handedly.
Hassony Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 its funny that the same midfield managed to put 4 goals past united, yet its deemed second rate now after 1 game (a game we lost last season with xabi armando alonso in our midfield) Aquilani seem to have been written off by a lot of experts, even though they admit that they have never seen him
fred milne Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Last season Xabi Alonso got very few plaudits for his performances. Not true really.
Swipe Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 (edited) Not true really. No but the media have defo ramped up their love for him. It's strange. Sure, Charlie Nicolas has said us losing him has made him less sure we can win title - despite the face he once said we wouldn't win the league with Xabi in the team! The c**** make it up as they go along. One pundit says something, they all take it as fact, and go on from there. Keys said the other day that Rafa thinks Aquilani will provide a better final ball than Xabi. Gray laughed sarcastically and said 'it'll have to be very very good then'. They wouldn't dare talk about another big club's new signing like that. Especially one, as Hass says, that they've probably not seen that much off. Sky f***ing loved what happened on Sunday. Beardsley Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 The F.A. will have a look at Rafa's comments about Dowd and the fourth official after the Tottenham game. Yet, Slur Alex goes home free after his rant in the CC.
Tosh Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I am amazed that Andy Gray has not been replaced. He's been co-commentator since Sky started and it's about time someone else was brought in. Tactical brain he is not. Odd too how 5 and Setanta also felt it appropriate to lead with Scots co-commentators.

He's just doing a bad impression of Gray

Tactical brain he is not. How would it help Sky to have better analysis ?They want sensation and as shallow a discussion as possible to satisfy the lowest common denominator. Think tabloid journalism. Nature of the beast, its not going to change any time soon.
The Hitman Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 That's why I love it when cricket season comes around. The opportunity to listen to intelligent people for once.

Falconhoof Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Richard Keys has a lot to say to the Cro Magnon demographic.
Gunga Din Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 That's why I love it when cricket season comes around. The opportunity to listen to intelligent people for once. the cricket guys should do the football too. they'd probably know more about it than the idiots they have doing the footie. i've stopped watching any sky coverage apart from the game itself, and even then there are many times i have the option for no commentry on. Sky shoul dget rid of Keys and let Stelling do it
Swipe Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Keys is a disgrace of a man, but I don't like Stelling. He's very snide and I don't like the way he pronounces "year".
Frosty Jack Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 TV-AM, i couldn't place where I remembered the hairy handed little beast from. He was Anne Diamonds bitch.

Tobes Rafa Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 You all seem to be ignoring a very important point in this article and it is one which I brought up during the game at the weekend. Rafa's comments on Nando are absolutely spot on. He gets kicked from pillar to post in every game but he also reacts to it every single time. Keep the chin up Nando and let your boots do the talking. I've a huge fiver on him for first goal tonight.
