Gravy Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I never thought he could produce football of such a high quality on a regular basis. He has been fantastic for quite a while now, especially considering we are at the pressure cooker end of the season.
johngibo YPC Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 (edited) Its fair to say he has suprised everyone, but some more than othersI presume Aldo has issues a grovelling apology?http://www.liverpoolbanter.co.uk/2008/11/j...benayoun-d.html Edited April 22, 2009 by johngibo YPC
Ethan Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Always liked Yossi - sometimes he looks a little lightweight but he is definitely a tryer

smithdown Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Thank f*ck we sold Keane or he might not have hardly got on the pitch.
fred milne Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 In a Garcia kind of wayMuch better player than Garcia for my money.
abc Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Been a fan since day one. I always thought if you put him in a team of players who move off the ball well you will see him at his best, especially from a central position rather than one out wide. Good to see also that he was preferred in the middle yesterday for a good part of the match.
BG Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 He's come on a lot this season in my opinion. Not least becuase he always works very hard now in every game - almost like Dirk. At the start of the season I thought he would never be a first XI player for us consistently. Now I think he can genuinely compete with Dirk for right mid and if not there then he should be in on the left most games.
Guest PaulMcC Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I've always said he's a proper footballer ie passes and never stands still.
abc Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 We need to keep him in the squad at all costs. A player of this level who can keep the ball well, take on and beat players, get into good goalscoring positions, and then score goals is priceless.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Physicality is his only problem. He won't play well against a team of cloggers, but he will play well against a team that tries to pass it & gives him space

A player of this level who can keep the ball well, take on and beat players, get into good goalscoring positions, and then score goals is priceless. There's a lot of talk about there being a dearth of quality "wingers" out there. Personally, I'd much rather we went after players of Yossi's type anyway - bright, hard-working players who will come off the wing as the full-back overlaps and who can make & take goals. 20 years ago these kinds of players played off the main striker (e.g. Beardsley), nowadays they tend to have a starting position out wide. Arsenal went for one in the summer with Nasri and have signed another in Arshavin. You've got Modric at Spurs. Rafa has been in for Simao before and seems to be monitoring Silva. These players do exist and getting another one should be our priority this summer.
surf Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 his decision making has been frustrating at times, does all the good work and makes a move to far where a pass sufficed. as great yesterday though and has been one of our best players this year
lawrie Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Although Yossi can be frustrating when he holds onto the ball that bit too long or tries one flick too many, he is nowhere near as frustrating as Luis was. Fair play to him he has been excellent in the last few months.
Chili Palmer Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Much better player than Garcia for my money. not for me, a great little player was Luis.
goodrobotusses Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Garcia was capable of producing more spectacular moments, but was infinitely more wasteful and frustrating than Yossi. On balance I'd say Benayoun is a better all-round player, but Garcia's contribution over the 04-05 season was greater than anything Yossi has given us thus far. If that makes sense.

This debate surfaces from time-to-time but that pretty much sums up my take on it. Gacia by his very nature provokes more extreme reactions in either directions - whilst aware of his flaws, I was always a big fan because he brought something that was otherwise almost completely absent from the 04-05 side. I also think Benayoun is a fine player and the Silva comparison someone made is an interesting one. If we were to get a Benayoun-type player with just that extra little bit of quality to demand a place pretty much week-in-week-out, then we'd have a very good player indeed.
Earl Hafler Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Much better player than Garcia for my money. A better player - certainly more consistent - but Garcia scored more spectacular and more important goals ( so far )
Benzo-13 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Yossi has been exceptional lately.Great to see a player grow into his role like that. He's fast becoming one of our best.
Nerik Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Garcia was a better goalscorer than Yossi both in terms of positioning (more of a poacher) and the spectacular. Also a big game player. However when it comes to running with the ball, dribbling, setting up others it is Yossi who is by far the better of the two.
