Atletico to sell their top stars if they finish outside top 4 in La Liga

Apparently when they qualified for the CL last year they blew a lot of cash on big money transfers, so lack of CL revenue will force them to sell this Summer if they fail to finish 4th.

Obviously Aguero is their crown jewel, but realistically he is probably out of our range.

They have a few other tasty players though, who we might be in for.

Maxi Rodriguez would really add a touch of quality on our right side - I remember reading a quote from Torres in the past, where he stated his admiration for Maxi as a player.

Similarly Simao would add a bit a flair - he is getting on a bit, but is versatile, two footed, and Rafa is a known admirer, having almost landed him a few years back.

Ibanez is another player who we have been linked with in the past, who could come into the equation if Agger leaves.

Thoughts?

Aguero would be the one to go for and if he showed the same sort of desire to come here as Torres did then I think it could happen.

Simao is past his best.

Maxi would be a good squad player.

Hasn't Maxi been poor for a few seasons ? and I don't recall Aguero and Torres playing well together either

?

Maxi was out for almost an entire season the year before and was out for a bit last year too. Think he's done well otherwise averaging a goal amost every three games from a widish position.

Aguero and Torres played one season together (Aguero's first and Torres' last) where Atletico were ravaged with injuries and had Aguero play solo striker and Torres left wing. Aguero scored 20 goals in that one. Cant judge them as a partnership at all because of their injury situation that season.

He's gash. We're so lucky we didnt buy him a few years back. Atletico have one of the worst defences in Spain, they remind me of Spurs.

1/3 is good for a wide player, hope his injuries are behind him now. How ironic would it be if we had Aguero playing a wide position with Torres as the central striker?

I've always liked Seitaridis the RB. He'd be good back-up/alternative to Arbeloa. They've a couple of great kids in Keko (RW) and Ignacio Camacho (CM) too.

He's got a great future, I would love us to try and buy either Simao or Maxi aswell.

Ibanez? A shredding guitar? Do they have a player named Ibanez?

TBF to Balague, he's not exactly making it up, talk about Atleti's finance state has been going around for a while. I admit it did surprise me a club of their size and revenue splashing the cash on the likes of Forlan and Aguero, seems like it was a spending beyond their means operation...but i don't think it's as bad as a 'oh no, we have to sell all our players' problem.

FWIW i would take Aguero in a heartbeat. Like Torres he's the type of player on the brink of greatness who needs a step up to achieve that, we can give it him. He's versitile and a hard worker. Maxi is a good solid player, who if we can get at a decent price would well be worth a look, but he's hardly the the type of player to mould into a world beater.

Also think Forlan is a very good player and Camacho is worth a look.

Don't know anything about this Keko fella though

they discussed him on revista a few weeks ago.

apparently he hates football so much he wants to quit

also, he's s***, and i mean extremely s***.

I would play aguero in Kuyt's place

People are always quick to put someone in Kuyt's place.

When Rafa picks his team though its Dirk and ten others...:)

I'd sign Maxi. Solid option for the right wing.

Aguero is pie in the sky though. That's Gerrard's position and he's better at it than Aguero is.

and he would cost more than our whole budget to

Not if they are being forced to off load players.

If they need the money they either their most saleable asset or they sell 3-4 of their other players, they then need to get cheap alternatives in. Will Aguero be happy if they sell the other top players, probably not.

If they need the money then I'd expect him to be available for around the £20 million mark unless big clubs come offering stupid money. Even with that though Aguero could easily mimick Torres if he did want to play for Liverpool which looks to be the case.

We'd do well to get half out money back on Babel at this stage. He's almost worth keeping on the off chance that he comes good.

I have no doubt at all that Babel would go for £10m+.

Even with his patchy performances we could turn a profit on him.
