He's mediocre but then that Guzan is hopeless so I suppose it's good news.

I dunno, Friedel conceded 5 against us, Guzan kept a clean sheet.

How did Friedel concede the 5th when he wasn't on the pitch?

Glad they've overturned this, but have to say I thought it was a nailed on red.

disagree..... nowt Friedel could do and Torres had a defender right alongside him. Yellow at worst I think.

Reo Coker was on Torres' wrong side. There was nothing he could have done to stop him. If it was a penalty, which it was, it was a sending off. Harsh but those are the rules.

I thought handball was the only offence that had to be intentional?

Friedel took Torres out, Torres had the ball and in no way ran into Friedel (unlike Park last week for instance) the defender next to him was irrelevant, that ball was in the net if Torres isn't brought down, the defenders getting nowhere near it.

But as I said, I'm glad he's been reprieved.

they don't normally over turn these unless it's John Terry as they see at undermining the ref

still, it should annoy Ferguson plenty.

Great news.

I was actually a little disappointed when he got sent off as I didn't want him banned for the manc game.

FWIW I thought the ref got it spot on, and that makes the FA's decision even sweeter.

By the letter of the law I though it was a nailed on red.

The thing that's saved Friedel is his effort to get out of the way. if the ref had noted that at the time, he might have just yellowed him. Corinthian spirit and all that.

Nailed on red card.

Torres was gliding past Friedel only a couple of yards from goal and dead center, if Friedel had of achieved his goal and avoided Torres then Reo-Coker wasnt even smelling Torres's fart. Torres's next touch was a tap in.

In saying that, I was gutted when he got the red and am now delighted that its been rescinded, but I feel sorry for the ref, it undermines him I feel in a situation whereby he made the right call.

Not sure a goal keeper should be sent off for that kind of challenge inside the box. He should be the last man, so that's not a reason to red card him IMO. Penalty and a yellow card more than sufficient.

Outside the box a different issue.

Nailed on Red Card. Friedel should either have gone for the ball or just jumped out of the way. Seriously, by getting caught between trying to make a save and get out of the way he made a right hash of it. He stopped Torres scoring. Still, it will turn a hornet's nest of injustice because Rooney will remain banned for what Crerand would say if f*** all. They'll be almost willing Friedel to cost them points to deflect the attention if they dont get back winning.

I felt sorry for him - mainly coz he's an ex-Red & they were getting hammered anyway - and so apparently did the ref. It's situations like these where the laws are an a***.

That said, imagine it was 0-0 late in the game, he didn't send him off & we missed the pen? (against the mancs or s****....!)?

He should be the last man

That's a fair point.

It was a definite foul. And deliberate; Friedel was cute with it by not using his hands and even looking like he was trying to get out of the way but he took him out with his shoulder.

Until I read your comment I thought "definite red"... now I'm less militant about it but I still think it was. If it had been Van Der Sar in the last minute of the CL Final would it have been a red in your eyes?

Overturning it is ridiculous and will only give hope to the perennial appealers like the Mancs.

I felt bad for him as he trooped off but he didn't acknowledge the standing ovation so feck him.
