Flo and Reg were celebrating their 50th Wedding Annivesary, and considering they are both season ticket holders of xxxxxxxx FC and they share the same favourite footballer, their son wrote to the club asking for the possibilty of a signed shirt off the player.

 

Sure enough, the signed shirt arrived in the post.

I think the clue is in the "Redge" (ie not "Reg"), hence a thick footballer which doesn't narrow it down at all, but i'll take a wild stab at Rio Ferdinand (although why he'd be anybody's favourite footballer is beyond me).

It'd need to be somebody pretty stupid but also someone who was actually likely to write back. I imagine the amount of letters etc the likes of Ferdniand et al get, they'd never be able to reply to them all even if they wanted to.
