lovely vid, great player. i always wonder about him when the rooney hype gets going, beardsley a better player for me

thing is Rooney is only 22, double league champion, European Champion and an International of 40 odd caps - at the same age Beardsley was at Vancouver Whitecaps

what Rooney goes on to become - who knows

That one he cracked in with his left in front of the The Kop in the derby was his best. The feckin roof nearly flew off. He didn't so much celebrate as run away, he looked terrified.

Rooney peaked as a player in 2004.

one player at the age of 22 was kicking about in the backwaters of the US socker league, one was being a major part of winning the biggest and best trophies in club football, what's complicated about it? It 's a fairly obvious point - even you yanks should get it.

My favourite player when I was a nipper.

My dad got me The Peter Beardsley Story on VHS for my birthday, then fecking Souness went and sold him about a month later. The fecker.

Although I did see a bit of a show called This Is Anfield on ESPN Classic the other night where Souness was basically saying that he made a massive mistake in letting him go. That finally exorcised some demons.

His ability to take a crack at the goal early was unreal. So many of those goals happened when the ball was struck so early that it surprises you even watching on telly.

Were there any goals from his Everton time at all? Don't think I saw one.

Remember that goal v City like it was yesterday. Weird feeling.

And why isn't this thread in the Liverpool forum? He's one of ours.
