Yes - but the deflection was pretty major. His shot was going from right to left at the Kop end, had it gone unimpeded, Johnson may have saved it, may have not - the deflection of Pogotetz took it away into the right/centre part of the goal so the keeper effectively going for the original, ended up diving past it.

i have seen it from a conclusive angle...my seat

if you drew a line from where he hits iand the direction towards goal and keep going into the Kop, you would virtually hit me! I was right behind it

it was going just, and i mean just, wide

Surely number of England caps and whether they wear Nike or Adidas boots should come into it as well.

there is that. if carra hadn't retired from international football it would have been his no doubt.

Damn those officials. They never take them off Fat Frank.

Good shout. Carra deserves the goal. Without his drive, it would never result in a goal. Dont take away his hard work.

don't think you can definitively say it wasn't on target. The benefit of the doubt should go to the attacking player & I'm sure Pogatez doesn't want it

Doesn't Carra wear Adidas? That means the goal should be his

i bet he'd say he really wasn't that arsed and it helped the team to three points. he's a proper pro.

He's a money grabbing merchant ! Why do you think he gave up his international career ? He wants to extend his career in club football and continue earning big bucks until he's about 47.

He needs to claim that goal for his goal bonus.

At the game I couldn't tell at all from our seats, but I thought having watched it a couple of times from the best angle on Match of the Day that it was on target but the keeper probably would have saved it.

Regardless of the keeper though the rule has always been if the initial shot is on target it counts as a goal for the player who struck it, so being totally objective I think the goal should go to Carragher in this instance.

If they changed that rule on defelctions Lampard's goal tally would be reduced by about half. Then if they decided to not count penalties it would be reduced by a further half...

I was thinking the exact same thing yesterday, taking away deflections and penalties he'd be left with about 6, probably scored against no hopers like Derby & Everton.
