In the midfield battle yesterday, did Alonso or Levia win a 50:50 ball ?

yeah, the one where they both went for the same header...

other than that I can't think of many times..

Alonso frustrated the hell out of me yesterday... thinking he had time on the ball against them s***houses.

Exactly my thoughts.

Every tackle was too late / too early

Every attempt to head the ball was too late / too early

They defied the laws of averages

FUKCIN AWFUL

Talk about giving the opposition confidence

Could have sworn that Alonso won the ball off Yakubu in the build up to the goal. But maybe that doesn't count cos it only lead to a goal.

Wrong.

It was a 60:40 ball. The clue is in the question, my dear.

Who gives a flying f***?

Football is measured in goals, not the number of 5050's we win.

That's like the classic " we won, who cares how we played "

The bigger picture - why weren't they up for it and why has Xabi been off his best for so long ?

It's a f***ing stupid post, Xabi played well and won the ball for the decisive goal. Lucas was s**** though.

Xabi has struggled since his injury, but he has been upping his performances quite a bit in recent weeks. Prior to his injury, he was playing well. So I don't think there are all that many big questions over this.

The bigger picture is points won. We struggled with that with Xabi and Agger out.

they were up for it. Alonso didn't have a great game but it wasn't for lack of effort and did a lot of good work in terms of pressing and tracking runs. Lucas had a nightmare second half for some reason

Don't get me wrong, as I think Xabi is quality when hes on his game. But I think alot of Lucas' reasoning for having a poor game was because of Xabi not having a great game.... and vice versa to some degree. They both seemed to bounce off each other in midfield. Obviously a new partnership, plus Lucas' lack of experience... I think he needed Xabi to be on form in order to have a good game.

I thought that Alonso had a belter of a game and saved us in view of the fact Lucas had a bit of a 'mare.

Thought he stopped them playing, whilst keeping possession well.

He's not been playing to the levels he can do over the past 6 (12?) months, but thought he had a good game on Sunday.

Then again... I thought Riise had a good game too, so it shows what I know!!

It must be because of rotation!

I rate Alonso very very highly. But I wouldn't say he had a belter on Sunday. He was wasteful in possession on a few occassions - did ok, but still not up to his own usual very high standards, in my opinion.

So if they didn't win a single tackle or a single header then that must have led to an awful lot of chances and possesion for Everton.

Hang on....

Twaddle

There were a couple of storming tackles by Alonso on Arteta, one particularly in the right back area in the first half.

But that said they were hardly barnstorming through the middle of the park.

Lucas may have made a lot of silly mistakes but his effort and work ethic was impeccable and made up for the indiscretions

True. Alonso's still not 100% but class is permanent, he'll prove his doubters wrong with a few more games under his belt,..unlike Kewell, Crouch or Pennant.
