I suggested this a week or two ago and the response was negative. Should we beat the Mancs tomorrow and the Arce beat Chewsea, it'll put a different complexion on the picture.

3 points between us and a better GD for us.

I'll stick with my prediction (here's your cue pessimists).

I agree with Cliff. I think Avram Grant is a disaster waiting to happen; he has all the charisma of a particularly dull slug. Can you ever imagine him saying anything inspiring to his players at half time?

I know they had a decent run when he took over, but I have always thought it'll be interesting to see what happens when they lose a couple and the pressure builds, and he isn't reacting well at all as far as I can see.

The Chelsea players clearly don't have much respect for him, and he's been saying some odd, rather desperate sounding things lately and engaging in a few silly rants (although even those are boring).

They've wobbled a few times lately and I think the wheels are about to come off. I know it sounds unlikely, but I've got a feeling Fenerbahce might knock them out of the CL. The situation reminds me of when we got the 'easy' draw with Benfica a few years ago, and it'll be one hell of an atmosphere over in Turkey.

Unlikely we are going to finish 3rd, I think we should be more worried about finishing 4th. Everton are still on our coat tails and have an easy run of fixtures coming up compared to ours. Include European commitments which Everton no longer have, they are my favourites for 4th and not us.

Have thought the same about that, Fenerbahce could be this season's dark horses. Zico's apparently doing a good job there.

They also have ex Sheffield Utd superstar Colin Kazim Richards on their books which is a bit random.

If we get through the next 3 games with 6+ points we could well finish 3rd.

Avram Grant may be a bungler but this Dutch one they brought in a few weeks later knows what he'd doing.

If only I could remember his name!

Ten Cate. He's the one who (alleg) had the row with the street dog.

we may well finish 3rd, but its not really any different to finishing 4th. the galling thing for me this season is the stupid points we dropped at home this season. had we even held United to a draw, and held onto leads against Villa, Wigan and spurs, we would be looking at going top with a win tomorrow. it really is so f***ing frustrating

Ten Cate is said to have been the brains behind the Barca team of 05/06 that won the league and CL double. Things started going t*** up when he left to become Ajax's manager.

Third, fourth.....the only difference is no play-off in the CL next season.

Both third and fourth have to play off, unless there was a rule change I missed.

Yup. Only difference is the percentage of the global pot you get from the being in the competition. Something like 15% instead of 10%.

Nah, Nah you misunderstood him. We'll win the CL so regardless of 3rd or 4th in the PL we still go directly to the group stage.

top three go straight into the group stage.

Just found Everton drew - waaheeyy :D

Would settle for 4th - even if we lose to Mancs, we could go 5 clear of Everton if we beat them at Anfield, that would almost seal it with 6 games to go.

Yep, I'm sure it was a compromise after Platini effed things up.

Wikipedia says it's from the 2009 season and onwards.

So i guess it's only 2 teams directly qualified for next season

Damn those cheap time machines
