New York Red Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Would you do it? Get Xabi back to Spain and pick up the hottest CM on the market?
Guest Barcamania Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Would you do it? Get Xabi back to Spain and pick up the hottest CM on the market?1. Since when Diego is a CM?2. Since when he's "the hottest"?3. Back to where in Spain? Who needs Alonso? If for 10 million dollars, there will be teams who would pay. Otherwise, I can't think any other possible situations. Especially in Spain, where every club has good players in midfield. Valencia needed one, found in Banega. Who else? Atletico? May be them, get instead of Maniche. But there're players performing well for them.If the question is "does Liverpool need Diego", then the answer is yes. Not sure about the rest of your post though
New York Red Posted January 14, 2008 Author Posted January 14, 2008 Maradona must be in his 40's by now though Fat as f*ck too right?
DarthVader Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 I don't think Diego is the hottest CM in the market but I think a better deal for Liverpool is to sacrifice Xabi for the creative talents of Luka Modric or the wing wizardry of Ricardo Quaresma.
Stevie H Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Why do we have to sacrifice Xabi for anyone?so new york red can start another thread?
Guest JV Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Why do we have to sacrifice Xabi for anyone?cause we are skint, init
IgPig Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 We should sell Gerrard and Torres and buy loads of exotic foreigners with good hair and winning smiles.
yellow jumper Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 on an unrelated point, newcastle could do worse than look at the bremen manager, he's bought well, they play a good brand of football, and despite losing klose and suffering an epic injury list are still in contention for the title again this year.
Leo No.8 Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 We should have been in for Diego when he left Brazil (work permit allowing but I think he was in the full squad already). Always looked a brilliant talent; don't understand why the likes of Milan and Inter didn't try to pick him up either as they are usually pretty sharp with these top class Brazilian kids. He's very different to Xabi though; I would call him more of a deep lying forward than a proper centre midfielder. No way could he play with Gerrard as a two, but he's absolutely class no doubt. I'd like to see him playing off Torres and Xabi staying personally. Then again this is all pointless with the f*cking muppet show running the club isn't it?
Clay Davis Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 We should have been in for Diego when he left Brazil (work permit allowing but I think he was in the full squad already). You mean when he went to Porto and was s****? He's come into his own, now mind.
Mikey Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 I'm not anti-Alonso by any means but what exactly makes him this irreplaceable, World class heartbeat of our team, and the right man to take us to the PL title? He's not 1st choice for Spain, has dropped off after his first relatively impressive season, hardly scores, can't run very fast, not a great tackler, lets Gerrard take corners when he should be in/around the box and sits too deep. When he's been playing at his very best we've hardly taken any points off the other 'TOP' sides and have never challenged for the title beyond October while he's been playing for us. What makes him so much better than Carrick, Hargreaves, Lampard, Mikel, Flamini, Gilberto etc? I haven't included Scholes, Essien and Fabregas because they're so much better than him it'd be ridiculous. And can we have less of these ridiculous 'Would you swap your red power-ranger for my Pikachoo' threads unless they've actually got any fact in them please?
Kite Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 He's not 1st choice for Spain, has dropped off after his first relatively impressive season, hardly scores, can't run very fast, not a great tackler, lets Gerrard take corners when he should be in/around the box and sits too deep. Bizarre synopsis. For two seasons he's been rated the best tackler in midfield in the Premiership by ACTIM. He doesn't order his captain around??? He plays where his manager plays him. Our forwards and wing players are generally s*** but it's his fault we don't win. I'd hate to hear what you are like when you are anti-Alonso.
Whitey Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Xabi for Iniesta? More realistic. Much closer to the mark.
So Cal Red Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 why sell Alonso? has there been a confirmed link where he states he wants to leave? We should sell Gerrard and Torres and buy loads of exotic foreigners with good hair and winning smiles.

Mikey Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 you think its ridiculous to compare him with febregas and essien but at the same time you compare him with journey men like flamini and carrick? It's not only ridiculous to compare him to Fabregas and Essien it's downright embarassing, and Carrick and Flamini are journeymen????? I asked what Alonso has that makes him better than those players and you've not listed one single thing. It's another case of Liverpool supporters watching through the most 'Rose-tinted' glasses you can buy. I'm not saying he's any worse than them, just asking what exactly gives him the 'best defensive/holding midfielder in the Universe' status he enjoys?
