To be fair what the actual respectable journalists have been saying for ages now is that it’ll be Barcola plus another one in only if Gakpo goes. The signing another forward, midfielder, right back stuff was just either nonsense ITK stuff or collective delusion. I really don’t like it, and we’re really light on quality and quantity in multiple areas, but we shouldn’t be at all surprised about it. If we are it’s our fault.

Sarr without another makes no sense at all. Which is precisely why it’ll be what happens.

Sarr is a goalscorer but he’s a very limited player. He is also only really suited to a direct system. At that price point, at that age, he’d be an incredibly odd signing. Usually I see the logic in what we do, even if I don’t agree with it, but this one would feel illogical.

4 days left - think we definitely try for one more (eg Minteh/Sarr) but I’m not convinced we won’t just run out of time and there won’t be time for the selling club to find a replacement à la Guehi.

He doesn’t really play as a right winger these days, Sarr. He is a completely different type of profile to Minteh so that as a pivot doesn’t make much sense at all. Basically played as a second striker at Palace. Low volume in all metrics, just converts chances well in a counter attacking team. If we were signing him as cover for Isak and Wirtz I’d get it but as the right winger it doesn’t make any sense.

Endo, Nyoni, Mac Allister, Gravenberch and Szoboszlai is actually quite a good blend of profile and also youth and experience. It’s just that people don’t rate Endo. Which is fine. But he exists. I’d personally sell him and bring a replacement in but the club clearly aren’t going to.

And with Muñoz and even Ngumoha too arguably.

I reckon they’re waiting on whether Barcola is a goer and how much he’ll cost, then all the other business fits around the remaining budget. A few things probably happen in succession once the Barcola situation is clear. They’re going to need a deadline on that though, obviously.

Think it’ll be a RB, a CB (or a RB/CB hybrid) and a right winger - so 2 or 3 more. Then any further additions would be replacements for any outgoings. I predict that if the club isn’t sold, it’ll be Trent - rather than Salah - who is sold to raise funds for strengthening elsewhere. Not saying I want that, it’s just what I see happening. Don’t think he’s happy at the moment and only two years left on his contract come the summer.

Klopp said that we’ve been spoiled to have qualified for the CL “early” in most previous years. Which is true. Other than a couple it’s not even been a scrap. He’s 100% right. He’d also be 100% right if he said we’d been spoiled as a fan base full stop, but he didn’t say that.
