honourablegeorge Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 According to The Times, Michael Owen is available for £6M next summer. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/foo...icle2658647.ece
honourablegeorge Posted October 15, 2007 Author Posted October 15, 2007 It's a price where he starts to become very much worth the risk.
Stevie H Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 that'll be nice for him. he can move to man city.
Cobs Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 he'll be £3m the summer after - that's when we should pounce
_00_deathscar Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 he'll be £3m the summer after - that's when we should pounce Free in the Jan in that summer - that's when we should REALLY pounce. Actually, we should've pounced when he was worth 17m - just to up our net spend.
CarraLegend Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 It's a price where he starts to become very much worth the risk. You can't really say whether it is or isn't now though, if he gets somewhere near to a proper run of games from now till May then maybe, if he's getting injured every other week then it's simply not worth it.
The_Adder Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 If you wouldn't take a risk on Michael Owen at 6 million quid then you must be a least a slight bit insane. Others in the '£6m bracket or above': Keiran Dyer, Titus Bramle, Kleberson, Jermaine Jenas, Emile Heskey... For a man who once worth "£25m" I bite their f***ing hand off.
ManxRed Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 If Owen's beaten Charlton's England scoring record by then, he might be more interested in commitment to the club he's being paid by and might just be worth a punt. :extremelycynical:
Kahnee Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 He's injury prone= Not a good investment No he's not He just gets injured a lot
Mike Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 No he's not He just gets injured a lothehestill makes me laugh that. raised the bar of pedantry that one. fwiw, if owen is prepared to be rotated he'd be a fantastic signing.
surf Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 He was worth it at 9 million. People might say he won't get many games due to injuries, but i reckon he'd play at least as much as Crouch and i believe Owen would score more.
Hassony Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 He was worth it at 9 million. People might say he won't get many games due to injuries, but i reckon he'd play at least as much as Crouch and i believe Owen would score more.he is also miles better in the air
Billy Dane Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 He was worth it at 9 million. People might say he won't get many games due to injuries, but i reckon he'd play at least as much as Crouch and i believe Owen would score more. With a suitable run of games, he would score more than Crouch, Kuyt and Voronin (but "probably" not more than their combined total)
carrafan Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 (edited) Yes, but isnt that a completely hypothetical situation..him getting a suitable run of games. His injury record makes him a very risky even buy at 6 mil. If he doesnt play much, we'll just be 6 mil plus wages short but not a player who could play. Its not only a question of 6 million pounds but also 80-100 grand a week. Edited October 15, 2007 by carrafan
growler Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 frankly at 6mil we should buy him. it will increase shirt sales and sponsorship. if we get 25- 30 games a season out of him that would be fine.

Its not only a question of 6 million pounds but also 80-100 grand a week.No way he should be offered 80-100 grand per week. Put down 60 grand on the table and see if he really wants the move. Given the fact he'll only play 60% of matches anyway, I think it's more than a fair deal.
libero Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 frankly at 6mil we should buy him. it will increase shirt sales and sponsorship. if we get 25- 30 games a season out of him that would be fine.Maybe so but then the papers would have a go at rafa for his rotation system and how it was harming Engurlands chances him not playing all the time??? He is a player from our past , leave it like that.
John am Rhein Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Maybe so but then the papers would have a go at rafa for his rotation system and how it was harming Engurlands chances him not playing all the time??? Yes. So we ignore the papers.
John am Rhein Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Actually the Rafatation may be the perfect way to get Owen fit for England - not that those tw*ts would see that.
Rimbeux Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Yes. So we ignore the papers. And the player(s) briefing the inside line off the record like?
John am Rhein Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 And the player(s) briefing the inside line off the record like? Sorry?
