apparently the lads were telling him after the game that if it wasn't for Houllier, Robbie would have been there with them.

Now he has his chance

Nice way to sign off - you know ;-)

I can't think of any other reason that he would come on as a sub with a few minutes left, plus he's one of the best penalty takers the club has.

Don't understand why we kept our best penalty taker until last.

Where the f*** has my reply gone!

Anyway to cut it short - Because it's often the pressure kick.

I almost wanted Kuyt to miss, so Robbie would have a go.

I didn't really

I had the same momentary madness but regained my sanity once i realised that he is destined to score the winner in Athens.

Think he must like taking the last one. He took the 5th against Birmingham in 2001. By all accounts he down for the 5th for England against Spain in Euro 96 too.

where did you hear that from macca?

Their decision to send two fellas on to miss a couple looks bizarre now.

although they did have such leaders of men as terry, drogba and ashley cole bottling out of taking one.

dunno. I think it was on here, so it must be true.

(I'm not a Houllier knocker at all btw)

Obv, Robbie was with the players after the win in Istanbul & it has been said (or typed) that, that is what was said

That must have been the easiest night's work of Robbie's career last night. Brought on for two minutes just to take a pen and he doesn't even have to take it.

Went for Rafa's "Substitutes are fresher" approach from 2005, except choosing Robben as one of them is just so wrong...

Because the two most important penalties are the third one and the last one. Those are the two that can see you through or knock you out. Gerrard took the third, and Fowler (probably our other best penalty taker) was on the last one.

i recently had a dream that Robbie would come on just to take a pen in the champs league final and it would be his final ever kick for us. When he came on last night, I thought that was it - but obviously this is destined to happen in Athens!!
