I believe the law states that it is still in the keepers possession until he actually kicks it.

(Shearer said as much on MOTD)

Me neither, which makes the disallowing of it and his subsequent booking all the more sweeter!

Didn't know that.

Solskjaer always has been a cheating snidey s****hawk

I always thought it was under the guise of "Ungentlemanly Conduct".

And you could link it in with the 6 second to kick it rule as if the attacker stayed at the keepers side to do what he did then it'd prevent the keeper from kicking the ball... which would be an offence, so you could almost make the opposition keeper commit an offence.

A fella in our pub (a Manc) reckoned that the goal should have stood AND that it wasn't a penno as there was a slight touch on the ball. Clown!!

Last time I checked, the law was about the ball being under the keeper's control, which in mid-air it isn't.

Chuffed it wasn't allowed though

Ball is deemed to be under the keepers control until he kicks it.

Dutch commentator said rules were changed last year and that's indeed the new rule.

The law now states that the goalkeeper must be allowed to 'strike the ball' before other players can touch it. So any Manc indignation is officially misguided.

For me the other one for Boro wasn't a penalty either; don't know how anyone can say it was after watching the replay and seeing O'Shea touched the ball. Rooney was going bonkers at the ref for not giving a foul on him by Primus in exactly the same circumstances the other week, so in the end these things even themselves out.

Good decisions by the officials in both instances for me, they were both in good positions to see the slight touch whilst watching on the TV your first thought was penalty. These guys get that much stick, there should be more credit when they get the difficult ones right.

Walton seems pretty good to be honest, fairly low key which I like in a ref. I think he's got the Cup Final this year.

i think the law was changed after a simmilar incident between a bahraini play and the T&T goal keeper int he worldcup play off, bahrain lodged an official complaint to fifa as they thought the goal they scored should have stood

O'Shea may have got a slight touch to the ball but only after he had made contact with the Boro player and taken him down. Clear pen.

Exactly, can't see how people can argue against, you have to get the ball before the man otherwise it is a foul.

If we're 1-0 up after 60 mins on Weds & Reina collects a through ball, I expect him to throw it & never kick it.

30 mins of watching a stationery ball & we're halfway there

(not having a go btw) the law is an ass

George Best did an almost identical thing with Banks in a Norn Iron v England game many moons ago - that was dissallowed then too.

One thing I'm not sure has changed with this rule though is whether a keeper has to have the ball in two hands to have it under control.

Remember Dion Dublin heading the ball out of that keeper's hand when he only had it in the one and the goal stood. Unanimously that was said to have been correct so I wonder if it would be now?

didn't gary crosby do it for forest years ago as well? think andy dibble might have been the 'keeper. and am pretty sure that counted.

It did. Think it was the decisive goal in that game and all.

Yep Dibble seemed to switch into a coma for 10 seconds and Crosby nodded the ball out of his hand.

Correct, so if the law states that it is NOW still under the keeper`s possession til he kicks it, then that goal should have stood. Another piece of inspired genius from the wee man from the Cregagh.
