...I think they may be surprised. If Rafa is given a big transfer kitty by our new owners, he will use it. For evidence of this I'd draw attantion to Noel White's traitorous comments about the boss...

The signings we made in the summer cost us a lot of money and they've not worked, it's the same old story," he says.

"We were happy to spend £9m on a centre-forward but we were told we should be spending £30m. You can't go out and get a Bentley all the time."

In other words Rafa was telling the board he wanted £30m to spend on a striker. Don't get me wrong, his attitude is always about the team, but I think Rafa recognises the same thing as the fans, and that is we need a couple of star players in key positions still to take us up to the next level and produce a sustained title challenge.

I do still wonder who it was he was asking for the money for...

I think that there is a massive assumption in your interpretation there.

TBH I don't think rafa is scared of spending big. However it needs to be the right "big". Big in the young, hungry high class player (Essien) rather than in the "big name, aging international" type (Shevchenko).

I think Rafa knows he has too spend big this season.

Not on loads of players but 2-3 top class players.

I'd prefer to say that he needs 2-3 1st XI players, regardless of the price.

I think it's a stupid notion that certain managers don't like to spend big money.

The amount of money you spend on each player is correlated to the level your team is at (with the transfer chest considered). Obviously the better it is, the more difficult it is to improve it.

Therefore, I await the time when we only need 2 new players each season, and they will each cost 15-20million. That would mean we were so good that only such players could help us sustain or make us that 3% better as a team.

He doesn't have a whole squad to build in the summer. This is the first time in ages we are in that position. Hopefully all the cash we have will be spent on 3 ish players.

I think Rafa would pay big (not daft big maybe, but much bigger thanwe're used to) for 2-3 really key players. The likes of an Alves, a Villa or someone in that rank. he won't be looking to build a team of 'galacticos' though - definitely not his way of doing things, and any big signing would have it made clear the team is the top dog, not him.

Well if you're talking about non-Galactico's that would surely rule the like's of Eto'o out who sounds like a verbal version of Diouf.

i.e. Full of sh*te and far too much to say for himself.

Can't comment too much on Villa or Torres, but from what I've seen of both, Villa seems the better player.

Rafa will find the 20m in his back pocket, no need to even touch the warchest.

If you get paid £100 a week you can't buy the Maserati you always wanted. Yer Granny dies and leaves you £200,000 though, are you still gonna potter around in your Nissan Dorma 1.4 litre? Are you hell.

Nostradamus said that. Fact.

is it a coincidence that crouch at 12m and selling bellamy for the 6m that we bought him for pays the 22m euros for alves :detective: get 30m from the owners for villa and we're sorted
