Milan Baros' agent has confirmed that Chelsea are interested in bringing the Aston Villa striker to Stamford Bridge.

The Czech Republic international has already snubbed a move to Real Sociedad in the January transfer window and it could be the champions that next make a move for the out of favour front-man.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill has used Baros sparingly in recent weeks and has conceded he is unsure as to what the future holds for the former Liverpool man.

With Andrei Shevchenko still a pale imitation of the player that sparked at Milan, and Arjen Robben struggling with injury, Chelsea are thought to be keen to pep up their attack ahead of the title run in.

It had been reported that they were planning a surprise approach for Baros and now his agent, Pavel Paska, has confirmed that Jose Mourinho has made his interest known.

"I have spoken about Milan´s future with Aston Villa manager Martin O´Neill," Paska told Pravo. "I will not contest the interest of Chelsea, we know about it.

"There would be a meeting between both clubs as the player is still under a valid contract.

"That is the first step both sides have to do to not break the regulations.

"That is why I cannot say if it was a loan or a permanent move."

Offers something different from their other strikers and can score a goal, pretty cheap as well i'd imagine.

In theory, yeah. In practice he's a mardy little cn*t who hardly scores, runs down blind alleys.

I think i mainly for the throw ins as geremi has a long throw on him

He would be perfectly suited for Bolton actually.

'Baros runs and YES! He has won another ten yards for bolton. They'll be looking to line up a set piece from this'.

I would love to get a cut-price Sheva who would then set the World on Fire in a red shirt

Never happen, but it would be SOOOOO nice.

I await the Gerrard "I speak to Sheva all the time and he loves our fans" article.

Jose was serious! Has he lost it? or was he just trying to screw of chelsea before he left?

'Wright-Phillips ruined my Chelsea move' - Baros (Soccernet)

New Lyon striker Milan Baros claims he was on the verge of joining Chelsea from Aston Villa before leaving the Premiership for France on Monday.

The 25-year-old told Czech daily Sport the switch fell through due to Shaun Wright-Phillips' reluctance to leave the champions for Villa Park.

Baros said: 'I agreed [to the move] with Chelsea. It was practically a finished thing. Everything broke down over the fact Wright-Phillips did not want to go to Aston Villa.

'And coach [Martin] O'Neill told me that without any replacement, he would not let me go as he would not have any strikers left.'

Baros, who signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at the Stade Gerland with Norwegian John Carew going in the opposite direction, admitted talking to Blues coach Jose Mourinho after the goalless Premiership game at Villa Park on January 2.

'We just spoke about the match,' said the former Liverpool frontman.

'Just after the game in the tunnel he told me that he wanted me to join the team and asked me if I was interested. I told him so. But it did not happen in the end.'

When asked if he was sorry the move did not come off, Baros replied: 'I would be sorry if I went to a worse club, but now I am at Lyon.'

The Czech Republic international admits he struggled during his time at Villa.

'I was injured, the club fought against relegation in the first season. They are close to the bottom again,' he said

'This does not help an individual and it is difficult to shine. And we did not play in Europe.

'I do not want to make excuses, Aston Villa was not a good contract for me and I am glad it is over.'

Let me get this straight. Baros couldn't go to Chelsea because Martin O'Neill said he could only go if he got a striker to replace him. That's why he tried to swap him with SWP.

No wonder Villa are going from strength to strength this season.

Correct me if I am wrong but that seems like an illeagal approach.

It depends whether or not Villa had already told Baros he could work to find himself a new club.

If Chelsea are that eager to get shut of SWP we should have another go at getting him ourselves in the summer.

Abramovic might just sell him to p*ss Jose off the way things are going...:)

If we're looking to replace Pennant (which I don't think we should) we should be looking at Lennon, not SWP IMO - brilliant last night.
