We will be buying two wingers in alves and gonzales, as well as bellamy. That frees up kewell and garcia to play off a striker.

We also have crouch, fowler and maybe pongolle.

I would rather we went with that for this season and then armed with the money we get for ciise next summer and a new transfer budget, go out and get someone of genuine world class quality when robbie goes and pay the top dollar for them. Torres for example, wait a year and then go and pay the £20 million for him.

We need an alternative to Crouch. Someone who has got a fair physical presence and can hold the ball up.

Kuyt/Kowt/Kuiijt/Koot/Krelt seems to be the man

I'd have been quite happy for Rafa to only buy one striker had that striker not been Bellamy.

We need a back up for Crouch

What happens if/when he gets injured or banned?

There's a bloke at Birmingham who'd be a reasonable price :mischief:

Crouch and Bellamy will do us fine. We don't need Kuyt.

I agree with Knox. Plus if Bellamy signs I doubt we'll retain Pongolle.

Sinama ------> Blackburn

Bellamy ------> Liverpool

Pherhaps?

Really unsure about Sinama, he has shown some real promise at times but his chances to get matches is getting smaller for every striker (and winger) we buy. If we bring in two strikers and a right winger i see no need for Sinama in the squad.

I'm happy that it looks like we are signing Bellamy, but the one problem with it is - his injury troubles.

Not a big fan of the idea of keeping Pongolle, so if he goes, then I really do think we need another. Cos Bellamy and Fowler - both have rather troubled injury records. So it'd be taking a big risk to not sign another.

We need Kuyt..we would then have the full complement of options:

Goal Poacher type striker = Fowler

Pacey direct type striker = Bellamy

Tall, bring others into the game type striker = Couch

Alan Shearer style big aggessive centre-forward = Kuyt

Then the attack will be taken from Bellamy or Garcia or Kewell ... as long as the manager of the Jam Butty mines agrees !!

You could argue that we 'need' lots of things, but I think folwer, crouch and bellamy are three completely different strikers and offer us three completely different options.

We also have kewell and garcia who can play off a striker and as they will probably not start the season as first choice wide men that effectively leaves us with 5 different options up front.

In my opinion that is plenty for this season. I would rather we then waited a year and got a genuinely world class forward than scraped around for 'someone we can afford' now.

Isn't that what the signing of Bellamy is though?

I don't think we will scrape around but we need to cover/have an alternative to Crouch. We can't go into the season with only one forward whose natural game is to hold the ball up.

If we were to "scrape around" and end up with Viduka, say, for a season and then go and buy the HR Worldbeater then what would be the problem?

We need a squad of 20 workers outfield. At least two of those have to be forwards who can hold the ball up or all our work of last season could disappear with one bad injury to Crouch.

Rafa wants Kuyt and obviously he'll give us the second option we need in the 'hold the ball up' department

plus he looks like a prolific scorer

and a possible bonus: he may well turn out to be a world class player, worth twice what we pay for him by the end of the season - I think there is genuine reason to think he might have that level of quality judging from what I have seen of him

i agree with this. kuyt definitely seems to be more of a van nistelrooy than a kezman.

with bellamys injury record and crouchies scoring record - i really dont think we can just rely on them or i see another season like last... hopefully robbie will be in very good shape and will maintain it but i see bellamy as the cisse replacement - not someone here instead of someone like kuyt

we do need two strikers - very good ones

I would rather we put the money supposedly going towards Kuyt with the Alves money and buy Joaquin...

Absolutely, or we'll be in same predicament as England with no strikers.
