Ex-Liverpool and Everton star Abel Xavier converts to Islam and quits football at 37 The Portugal star now wants to go by the name of Faisal Xavier and will embark on humanitarian projects after failing to find a club. He last played for LA Galaxy in 2008 and he has now decided to give up on his career. Xavier, 37, joined Liverpool from Everton in 2002 and scored twice in 21 appearances for the club. He also played in two spells for Middlesbrough, the second in 2006 after serving a one-year ban for failing a drugs test. He moved to Major League Soccer club LA Galaxy to play out the final games of his career alongside David Beckham. Xavier said: 'It's an emotional goodbye and I hope to participate in something very satisfying in a new stage of my life. 'In moments of grief, I have found comfort in Islam. Slowly, I learned a religion that professes peace, equality, freedom and hope. These are foundations with which I identify.' http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...ootball-37.html

im seriously suprised people can say heskey was our worst player of the decade!! he did a decent job for us....theres been far worse.. to name a few cisse diouf kewell all players bought as first team buys...all awful..
-
nah we dont need another chelsea reject...good player is parker, and is fine where he is at right now.....no way is he good enough for any of the top clubs...
-
Goal of the decade - we`ve seen some stunning goals, but i gotta go for Gerrards in the fa cup against west ham... win of the decade - destroying Real Madrid at anfield worst defeat - errrr dunno where to start, theres been a few best performance - roma away worst performance - first 45mins of istanbul best player - gerrard worst player - voronin best Anfield atmosphere - Chelsea champs semi best non anfield atmosphere - Istanbul best goal scored against us - Henry at the library funniest momemt - the kid that got in the champs league celebration pics

not having that....shay given is a superb keeper! now the defence.. i agree with, some shocking signings....bridge has always been overated, toure is well past it....lestcot isnt all that
-
so was wondering what happened with this guy... the few times i saw him play with spurs, he looked spectacular.....obviously hasnt worked out for him there, anyway i did a search to find out where he was at...and hes on loan at QPR.. then i found this.. unbelievable... does anyone have any friends who unfortunatly support spurs and can shed some light as to why this guy hasnt yet made the grade?

personally think Houllier and Rafas times at the club are remarably similar.. - both found major success early on - both lost their right hand man (houllier - bergues, Rafa - pako), did well for a season...then ultimatly struggled. - both had to spend some time in hospital...that same season, we finished 2nd - both are stubborn beyond belief and tend to have favourites - both have stuggled to buy any decent players for the wing and full back positions.....seriously has anyone we have paid money for in the past 10 years on either side actually been a consistent solid buy?

in a way, couldnt you say the same about the mancs this year.. ferdinand,evra,rooney..maybe Vidic( though i dont really rate him) but im sure the mancs would say those are the only irreplaceable ones... Not many clubs have 6 plus players who are truely world class...at least in england, i would say chelsea are the only exceptions......terry,a cole, cavalaro, essein, drogba, anelka, lampard, cech(who is one that has gone down in my estimations...though im sure chelsea see it differently) anyway you get my point.....
-
Even Agger? think hes a great player and our best defender when fit......
-
i know he did...cos he wanted guaranteed first team football, something he didnt get when he was originally at chelsea.. dont get me wrong, i want the guy to succeed...i just believe we did overpay for a full back when really the money could have been spent in better areas....Arbeloa might not have been as good going forward, but he was a much better defender...
-
regarding just the players.. Pepe -- outstanding, wouldnt have any other keeper in the world - FIRST TEAM GloJo -- basically we all knew what we were getting, great going forward..horrible defender....honestly think we overpaid..and if he wasnt good enough for chelsea..why will he good enough for us?! hes the new Riise in my book - JURY OUT Carra -- slow, past it....is saved by his fantastic passion including some unbelievable last ditch challenges (including one today) but is it enough?? - KEEP SQUAD Agger -- fantastic player....he really needs a consistent run to see how good he really is - KEEP Insua -- think hes ok.....needs a rest, definetly one for the future...not good enough right now though - KEEP-SQUAD Kuyt -- yes he works alot....but we need alot more, shouldnt be a first choice - KEEP SQUAD Marcherano -- love him...great player - FIRST TEAM Lucas -- a decent player, but surely not of the standard we need - GET RID Reira -- completely average player...again if he wasnt good enough for man city...why did we offer a 2nd chance?? - GET RID Stevie -- looks lost right now....but he`ll be back - FIRST TEAM Nando -- legend - FIRST TEAM Benny -- a good player...but good enough to be first choice?? i dont think so.....we should be looking at a step up - KEEP SQUAD Babel -- ha - GET RID Auerilio -- injury prone, pretty good when fit....-KEEP SQUAD Degen -- huh ? - GET RID Dossena -- actually think hes a good player, doubt he`ll be around long...nor do i think hes the quality we need - GET RID Skrtel -- a player who looks better than he really is, very poor in the air.....seems to make bad decisions - JURYS OUT Ngog -- gonna be a good player, has done a good job while torres was out - KEEP SQUAD Aquilani -- i honestly dont think he will be here long....in the brief times we have seem him...he looks a little sluggish and slow....but hard to judge the guy really - JURYS OUT Voronin -- ha - GET RID Spearing -- hes alright, cannot for the life of me seeing him make the grade..for the benefit of his career..he should move - GET RID Kyrgiakos -- maybe a good squadie....but again wasnt that great for Rangers..so why is he with us?? - GET RID Plessis -- average - GET RID Nemeth -- one for the future- KEEP SQUAD El Zahr -- average - GET RID Darby -- hard to judge, young needs games - KEEP SQUAD Kelly -- looks a great prospect - KEEP SQUAD Pacheco -- one for the future..deserves to be on the bench more - KEEP SQUAD Ayala - looks ok, again hard to judge - KEEP SQUAD.. so i make that 5 players who are good enough (right now) to be first team players....... Looking at the list..we really do have alot of deadwood.. voronin, babel, lucas, the greek,el zhar, plessis, dossena, degen,Riera none are good enough for us...surely?!?!?! shanks would be shocked at some of the average players in our squad.
-
reina cos he did nothing wrong
-
we were crap before the red, no invention, no flair.....the sending off might do us good...we s**** up till then.. Fijfuvfefkifoerjigo how long do we have to go on with workhorse players???!?! seriously....kuyt,lucas,dossena,masch has there ever been a more defensive midfield.....
-
excellent job Carra... i will say...controversially but hey im gonna say it......Very average player to be making that many appearances, which coincidently coincides with our poor league performance in the time hes been in the first team.. Hes a great cup player....ie..those one of games where passion and grit mean everything, but week in-week out.......i honestly dont think hes been that good... Destroy me...go ahead
-
Rafa knows more than we do.....if he was world class and ready, able and fit...ive no doubt he would start.. Regarding the Riise story, ive heard the same thing rumbling around for the past couple of months, dunno where this came from?!?!
-
seems simple to me....you have a squad, if you have a squad...then surely the point is you can play who you want..when you want. Who cares if he didnt put out his strongest 11....thats the managers decision, all other clubs should shut up and concentrate on their own.
-
id like james milner....a fantastic player, seems like hes been around for ages, but still young...23? i believe of course the likelyhood of us getting him is Zero i reckon....
-
would love to see it....wont happen though We were very open first half...lots of space for wigan in the midfield at times, cant see Rafa dropping the 2 defensive mids...especially for the big games To be honest, i thought gerrard looked lost at center mid..... N`gog was excellent though, definetly has done a fine job as back for torres
-
im interested in how we all feel.......last time a poll was done, majority were behind rafa and still believed he would be the one to lead us to the title.. now...and im not sure and am interested in how feelings have changed.. And this has nothing to do with the owners,etc.. This is all about Rafa.....what do you honestly believe? can you see him actually winning the title with us?
-
Really really average players...
floyd the barber replied to sean 's topic in General Football Discussion
Bramble should under the list of "really s**** players who i cannot understand still get paid to play professional football" he is simply shocking...terrible,terrible defender -
always nice to blame someone...yes webb was s****, but we were worse..such a tepid weak 2nd half
-

We still have a chance?? dont we? we win tomorrow..and are only 10 points behind the top spot.........with the way this crazy season has been, i can quite easily see the mancs and chelsea losing more games, plus with the champs league gone.....full concentration has to go on the league.. torres- hopefully will remain fit gerrard - see above aquillani - hopefully will be the player we all hope him to be 1 Chelsea 16 12 1 3 40 13 27 37 2 Manchester United 16 11 1 4 34 3 Aston Villa 16 8 5 3 26 14 12 29 4 Arsenal 14 9 1 4 38 18 20 28 5 Tottenham Hotspur 16 8 3 5 35 22 13 27 6 Manchester City 15 6 8 1 29 21 8 26 7 Liverpool 15 7 3 5 31 20 11 24 I still have hope.........theres been far bigger gaps at christmas be recovered from.
