Honestly feel thats more to do with how f`king good Reina is......

For me, this is probably our worst set of defenders since the souness years... Insua(still needs to learn,will be decent as back up),aurellio,skrtel,the greek...are really not good enough or are on the treatment table more often that not... Johnson came in for big money, but really he is an awful defender...worse than Riise in my opinion, id also add that his distrubution is pretty crap with his only talent lying in his ability to beat players, his pace and that sometimes he is able to hit a lethal shot.....is that worth the money we paid?!?!? i dont think so......though im sure many will disagree with me Carragher - well he can no longer be regarded as first choice....he is getting worse with each game.....his saving grace is that he is a scouser, he will put 100% in everygame....but its now not enough.. Agger - well hes one who should stay(maybe along with insua) and would be certain of a first team place..as long as he stays fit.....our one defender who seems a step above the rest for me.. I long for the days of a squad with babbel, hyypia,henchoz,riise So for me we need 2 new center backs , a left back and a right back.......though ive no doubt after the heavy investment, Johnson will be first choice.. i just dont rate him.

For those that dont know, Ray is a crazy geordie comentator who normally does the spanish games here in the states.. anyway he was comentating on our game against Benfica...and loved lucas and kuyt from the 1st minute.. various quotes "why is Aquilani not playing? well its because lucas has been outstanding this season" "kuyt has been one of liverpools greatest signings of the past 10 years" Now whether you agree with those or not...by the end of the game both players were outstanding, possibly their best performances of the season. So Ray you might be a crazy bugger.......maybe next time you comentate on us, tell us that Babel is a genius and the next messi and N`gog is the new Eto`o

...have we seen any success from it?? So many promising youngsters have arrived at anfield, yet have we yet to see anybody really succeed... First under Houllier and now Rafa...plenty of apprently "soon to be a superstar" players have come to anfield.. The most obvious example..le gems ; le tallec and pongolle..both didnt make the grade Insua is probably is the only one to actually make it here....and thats more down to our extreme weakness as left back(not to take away insuas ability, but he isnt ready for the first team at all) We currently have what seems another promising batch including nemeth,pachecho......are they to go the same way as the rest? would it make a difference for them to actually see more first team action....see the most obvious example..Arsenal. I think its pretty awful when over the past 10 years i can think of only one player who has actually played consistently in our first team... i know if i were a promising 16-18 year old...anfield probably wouldnt be my first choice ........(well it would for obvious reasons, but you know what i mean!! )...... based on how many actually make it.....is it down to our coaching? our scouting?....are these promising youngsters actually nothing of the sort, or have we let go of anyone who has actually made the grade somewhere else? Maybe im wrong?!?! if im missing someone...let me know!

Carra`s legs have gone agger still has to prove himself and is injury prone insura and aurello - one is young and out of his depth right now..the other spends more time on the treatment table sktel - might look a hard guy...but gets muscled off the ball too often and hardly wins a ball in the air johnson - jurys out on whether he can defend on a consistent level.... the greek - a poor mans hyypia benyoun - decent squad player..certainly deserves a place in the first 11 judged on last season...this season, and he really hasnt shown much when available lucas - to be fair hes done ok this season...though thats not enough is it, i think hes pretty average in everything he does...hes an ok tackler, can pass alright...cant shoot for s*** though kuyt - workhorse..looks knackered right now....is he good enough for a first team spot?? not really reira - we need a far better winger than this guy....looked fairly decent when he arrived, been pretty inconsistent since then babel - will probably be good under a different manager... masch - quality player...would be in most top sides first team gerrard - has had a poor season...but of course would always be a starter..though i still think hes best on the right..given the freedom..ala zidanne,nedved rodriguez - decent player...good squadie perhaps..wouldnt say hes the player to take us to the next level aquallani - havent really seen enough of his....feel hes potentially best in the hole behind torres ngog - for someone who is only 20, has done a decent job and gets some unfair stick so..based on the above.. i honestly feel our squad needs a massive overall....id keep the following.. reina, johnson,agger,masch,gerrard,torres,ngog,aqua,benny....Other than those......i really dont see anyone else who is good enough for our club ----------------------------------reina-------------------------------- johnson-------------agger--------greek-------------------insua --------------------------------masch--------------------------------- ---rodriguez--------------gerrard-------------------benny--- -------------------------------aqua------------------------------------ --------------------------------torres----------------------------------- the above would be my first choice line up from our squad..and really it was tough, tons of questions marks...never good for a first team. i dont like any of our left backs.....not sure about having benny and rodriguez on the flanks,cant really trust agger and the greek, have doubts about johnson at right back., dont like gerrard as a center mid, and of course the jury is out whether aqua can do a job behind torres... so...im depressed!!!!!!!!!!!!!! --------------------------------

as i said, this is based on his ideal position... If we are not gonna play him there, or havent planned on playing him there....then signing him was a mistake, he doesnt have the tackling ability of alonso nor the long range passing...he is a far better player than alonso going forward, at least from what ive seen him from his performances for Roma.. Again this all means that gerrard has to be "out of his way" and pushed to the right...which isnt gonna happen, so...really why did we sign aquilani......? especially for the amount of money we paid
