as i said, this is based on his ideal position... If we are not gonna play him there, or havent planned on playing him there....then signing him was a mistake, he doesnt have the tackling ability of alonso nor the long range passing...he is a far better player than alonso going forward, at least from what ive seen him from his performances for Roma.. Again this all means that gerrard has to be "out of his way" and pushed to the right...which isnt gonna happen, so...really why did we sign aquilani......? especially for the amount of money we paid

honestly, id rather campbell than any of our center backs right now.....in fact im tempted to say titus bramble would do a better job....errrrr ok maybe thats pushing it slightly too far!!

18million for a full back.......yeah id say thats alot of money, especially when it we needed it elsewhere....its not like we are loaded and can spend the same amount on 4 other positions, right back was not a position i would`ve thought a priority..

was getting rid of arbeloa and bringing johnson in for crazy money a mistake? arbeloa was a decent player for us and criminaly underated, while he maybe doesnt have the attacking skill of johnson.....he was and still is a far better defender.(saying that, watch the season review from last...arbeloa was involved in many of our attacking plays and goals) We look poor at the back this season and a large portion of the blame has to be placed on our various full backs....(insua deserves a whole other thread) While i hope johnson goes on and becomes a great defender for us...lingering doubts remain, yes his season has been distrupted by injury.....still is it possible for one to learn defensive skills, for me...its more of a natural gift and one of..if not..the hardest position on the pitch...he really is a poor defender, i basically see him as the new riise......the honeymoon period is still out, but come next season...he might be one to get abuse IF he doesnt improve at the back....hes is great going forward, but shouldnt his number 1 concern be defending, with the money spent on someone who can actually attack with pace as a right winger? For the money we let arbeloa go(and from all reports ive read...arbeloa didnt really want to leave).......wouldnt it have made sense to keep him and spend the money in areas far more needed....ie a winger, a quality striker to play off torres?? Dont get me wrong, this is not a thread bashing johnson...it just seems a bit of an error in judgement right now..spending so much money on a full back when really....we didnt need to

dont think hes been that poor while at the club... certainly looked a bit dodgy in early games, but hasnt exactly had a run of games......still i guess he didnt set the world on fire in training or we would have seen him more.. scored against the mancs and real madrid, also ive never heard of read him say a bad word against us....

cant see Rafa having the confidence in any of our available right backs...i reckon we will buy or move carra there, with skirts and agger in the middle... saying that..even though kelly was excellent when we saw him..both full back positions seem to be an issue with us...insua definetly needs a break, aurellio cannot be relied upon and johnson has been pretty poor since coming back from injury...it seems an easy target for opposing sides.

lucas has been exceptional the last 2 games.....very impressive, seems to dominate and demand possesion in the middle.....also doesnt go chasing around players for no particular reason which can leave massive gaps (maybe a fault of mash...) also lucas is a far better passer of the ball..

for the corner, where the villa player had tons of space.....bad defending by insua and kuyt who went for the same ball...reina went mental.. then the corner right after.....kuyt did exactly the same thing, he left his space and followed the ball...IF the ball had gone beyond him, a villa play again..would have been in acres of space in the box....WTF?!?!?! overall average first half...we definetly need to get aquilani on the ball more...and kuyt off the ball more
