I'll always look back fondly on GH's time as manager, like some others have said, that treble season was the first time I was able to really experience that kind of success and appreciate it (being born in 1982 the successes of the 80's passed me by). But I also remember clearly his last 2 seasons. I was virtually in tears after one particular defeat at Birmingham City - I couldnt remember watching a Liverpool team roll over like that, and to such s*** opposition. Then there was his final season, where every post match interview (more often than not post-defeat) was an incoherent ramble about the number of corners and shots we'd had. Through no fault of his own, I think his illness had a dramatic effect on his ability to manage at the highest level. Its easy to say in hindsight, but I think stepping down after the heart surgery would have been the right thing to do, for him and for us as a club. Mixed feelings overall, but will always be grateful for that 2000/01 season, and for his hand in shaping Stevie and Sami into 2 of the greatest players we've ever had.
