UEFA can/can't guarantee Hillsborough request
Gray - YPC replied to Sir Tokyo Sexwale 's topic in Liverpool FC
I would love us to get through and they refuse to move the match. We could then get maximum publicity for the justice campaign, get masses of media coverage, and take a stand against the way football is so money orientated by refusing to play. Can you imagine it if the club had the balls to turn round and release a public statement saying that they have requested the match be moved, and if it isn't then we will not turn up, and will accept any sanctions UEFA took as some things are more important than money. Really put the ball in their court, and get loads of publicity for the justice cause. Bring them on!! (And if the club did play on April 15th then whatever the League game prior to that is would probably be my last ever Liverpool match - certainly for a number of years at least) -

In true tabloid fashion: Reina (9) v Westerveld (7) Arbeloa (8) v Babbel (9) Carragher (9) v Hyypia (9) Skrtel (8) v Henchoz (8) Aurelio (8) v Carragher (8) Kuyt (7) v Barmby (7) Mascherano (8) v Hamann (8) Alonso (8) v Gerrard (8) Riera (7) v Berger (8) Gerrard (10) v Heskey (8) Torres (10) v Owen (9) 2006 (92) v 2001 (89) So there we go.

Pity that. I was hoping to see the celebration sometime...

Would rather spend that kind of money on Franck Ribery. He's be perfect for our system.

I have had a sneaky feeling for a couple of years now that Joe Cole will play for us at some point in his career. Not sure why I've had that feeling, but I've said it a few time.

Ribery is in the Top 5 players in the world for me. A fabulous player. I was talking about him just this weekend actually. I would love to see him play for Liverpool. Exactly what we need. Could play either side of Torres, and having him, Gerrard, Torres and AN Other as our attacking 4 would be genuine world class.

I am as livid as a cut snake!!! http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/feb2q.html Why aren'y we buying him? Sack Rafa! Sack Parry! Sack Everyone! Aaaarrrggghhhh!!!

IF we don't win the League does that mean we've bottled it? Does it mean it's Rafa's fault? Does it mean a better side won it?

I think there's an argument for playing Agger at left back against Stoke. We won't lose much going forward, he's better in the air than Aurelio and Dossena, and I wanted to see Agger given a run at left back before Insua came in and did so well.

I was told this was 95% sure on Friday night, and 99.9% on Saturday, but didn't get the chance to put any money on it (my mate had a few quid at 4/6). Anyone got odds on the next Burton Albion Manager??... I'm led to believe who that's going to be, and I'm hoping to make a few quid from it!! Hope he does well... had a few dealings with him over the years, and he's a cracking lad. Really down to earth and genuine too.

Spike his drink whilst his out... 'Random' drugs test the following day.... Sack him to get him off the wage bill... Well if it 'allegedly' worked for another crap keeper down south, then why not here?

Tony Barrett says it's a none starter, so I suspect it's his agent spreading the word to try and drum up interest.

I think that is a load of b******s. I totally believe that there are huge differences between human character, and whilst there are many reasons behind why this is and what "causes" it, of which race is one of them, I simply cannot see how you have made the leap from acknowledging people's differences and this being racist. What makes up someone's characteristics? Genetics, socio-economical factors, parental and family upbringing, education, fate and yes... race. Is the race aspect influenced by other factors, then clearly yes, as people given the tag of a certain race may well have similar socio-economic conditions, get as similar level of education etc, and as such they go hand in hand. Acknowledging and recognising such differences is, in my opinion, a pre-requisite to understanding different cultures and helping break down the 'barriers' in society that contributes to both overt racism as well as 'institutionalised' racism. Using such differences as a means to berate, dismiss, oppress, insult or any other negative behaviours = racism. I think there's a huge difference, but I guess in the eyes of many here I'm racist as I think people are different and that race is a big factor in this. Oh well... a racist I am then.

I'm with Anny Road on this one... some people are so far up their arses and seemingly desperate to prove how they are holier than thou that it means you're treading on egg-shells the whole time. So even when there is huge evidence of things you cannot point this out for fear of being accused of being racist. I'm not a biologist or sports scientist, and couldn't explain the scientific reasoning, however I have seen enough of life to have a general understanding that different races / nations / people have different characterstics, and these characteristics mean that it is common for certain characteristics are often assocaited with certain skills. When I think of boxing and the middleweight divisions, I often think there is an above average proportion of tough Mexican / Puerto Rican and other "Latin American" boxers. When I think of the heavyweight division, I think the same about "African-Americans". If the world was solely made up of "black" people, would we be allowed to point out how an above average number of endurance and long-distance runners are from African countries, such as Kenya. Can we point out how when looking at the pool of top-class sprinters there is an above average number of "African Americans". Whilst I have no doubt there are cultural differences that are a big factor too, there is surely an element of your genetic make up which influences how likely you are to be a success at certain sports - particularly where it is physical requirements that are needed. Hasn't Britain recently done something at Loughborough University whereby they tested a load of young kids involved in sport and looked at how their natural abilities could be matched into the requirements of certain sports. I assume they looked at things such as lung capacity, muscle structure, body definitions, and other stuff... It's not a huge jump to go from considering this concept on a small scale (just considering this from a small pool from a small country) to understanding the theory behind it on a wider scale, with the idea being that different races have different characteristics (both physical and socio-economic) which means that there will always be some races / nations / cities / genetics that achieve more prevelant success than others in certain tasks and sports. To be honest my own opinion is that I think there's an argument whereby being so aware of race is just as racist as some of the comments that have been seemingly seized upon as being racist. By being so quick to highlight anythin to do with race makes people less able to understand the differences between races, of which there are undoubtedly many. The first step to wiping out racism is understanding other races, as well as your own... by creating a culture of fear around having any discussion around racisim will do nothing to help bring these knowledge barriers down.
