I’d say they have their core targets and then a few they accept they’re underdogs for but who they’d defo stump up for. Probably, but if we're stepping in last minute when someone else has laid the groundwork, like PSG with Kvaratskhelia, we're probably just letting out hot air for no gain. Of course, could be that we are getting in early and just losing out, and that stuff just never comes out, but why make it public last minute when we then seem destined to look a bit silly?

I just don’t think that would be anything but bad optics tbh. Just not good PR. I suspect Wirtz is the same as caciedo; expected to go somewhere for ages and then his people start putting out feelers to other clubs to get what they want. We say we’re bang up for it, but it’s more about leverage with the club he wants to go. Edited 6 minutes ago by Swipe

Agree it's a bit of a weird one, I suspect the stuff with Wirtz is linked to Frimpong in some way? It's a bit of a reach but maybe we agreed to put our name into the mix to help them get a better deal out of Bayern and in return we got favourable terms? Seems at odds with our usual deep dive approach, especially with someone like Wirtz who would cost a significant amount. I also wonder if it's just a way to create some noise and distract from other deals, Wharton or similar perhaps? Smokescreen klaxon! Edited 1 minute ago by Hus

Maybe how we did the deal for Diaz, undercutting Spurs, taught us that that's a clever way to go about things. But it's one thing to give Spurs' face a good egging, it's quite another with PSG, Bayern, City etc.
