Disgusting. Employees don't leave unless the management is happy to let them go. Barca have been back for him twice but suddenly we no longer need him.

I think you'll find that employees leave over a lot of things other than management.

My point is he wouldn't have left unless we were happy for him to go.

Can anyone give me any quantifiable evidence as to why Segura is a major loss? The buying loads of foreign kids policy has been a disaster for us - we've not had a single one make an impression from tens of thousands of them.

Was that part of his remit? Just seems like one of these names about the place who hasn't actually achieved anything of real note. I'm open to be corrected though.

I honestly don't have any opinion on this at all. I know nothing about Segura or what he did at the club. I'm not sure if this makes me massively uninformed (and I'm usually fairly switched on (feck off, Kahnee)) or it's just an indication that this isn't a big deal.

Very few things in football are a big deal. Segura could be excellent at what he does but we'll find a way to cope. Same, if we don't sign Sahin. And Dempsey. And Tello. I'm tired of all the downright depression around.

What, you mean like Van Persie? Fabregas? Modric? Owen? Rush? Torres?

You can't stop someone leaving tbh, I find people very rarely change their mind once they have decided to look, I didn't know Barca had tried to nab him twice, where was that reported?

If true, there must be a reason he was so highly regarded... I honestly don't know what he did!

The whole FSG and all in BR stance is worrying me, surely we need to see how he does before do everything he wants. Must think positive!

My mistake, I must have been sleeping for 10 years, I thought they were all still playing (except rush!)

With staff, if you want them to stay, you do the right thing if you want them to stay and they will.

As for he is, he was part of the partnership with borrell that came from barca. Between them, they implemented the vision for the academy. They joined under rafa and it was considered a real coup.

The reason nothing has come through yet, is because it takes time. The academy is more than buying a cesc and putting him in your team and claiming he is your homegrown star. It's about making your own cesc.

In addition, it's another football person leaving the club. And how many do we have coming in? No football people on the board and led by a failed football exec. Thats it.

Finally, it was one the few things that has been working at the club. Why break it? These guys have proven what they can do.

We talk about a longer term strategy and direction, but we've gone all in on Rodgers. I'm sure he'll do well for us, but what happens if he doesn't?

I know most fans only care about our next signing and the next game, but for me, I'm interested in the longer term direction and foundations too. When i see something not broken, getting broken, I get pissed.

For those who don't really get the impact, it's selling agger on the last day of the transfer window with no replacement. If the rumors of mike marsh are true too, then it's replacing agger with a 17 year old from the academy who has never played for the reserves yet.

His point was they all left their employers without that really being what their employers would have wanted. Not sure the comparison with players really stands like, but the fact they are 'still playing' has nothing to do with the point he was making.

Simply not true.

How pivotal was he to what Barca have done? Genuine question. And if he was dead important, why did they let him go? I think people tend to w*** a bit too much over anyone who has a Barca connection.

True. Obvious, but true.

Arrogant b******s. Loads of fans care about direction, foundation etc and not being suicidal at the departure of someone who in 3 years hasn't produced a single first team player doesn't really change that. And it is 'pissed off', not 'pissed', that does my f***ing head in.

Is it f***. Agger has a demonstrable track record of making a contribution to us in a way that Segura doesn't. That isn't to say that Segura wasn't slowly, quietly making a difference. We just don't know. He may equally have been stealing a living. I need more than 'He worked for Barca so he must be boss' to convince me of why this is such a loss.

We know youth policies take 20 years to bear fruit, except when they don't , but I'm with you Leo.

It's a really inexact science producing good youth, and every time there's a spate from one source people rush to proclaim the system. Where are all the Clairefontaine graduates now ? Why nothing new from the legendary Ajax academy ? Did the magicians there suddenly lose their touch ?

Steve Heighway brought through Fowler, McManaman , Owen, Carragher and Gerrard in a 6 year spell, plus others who went on to play premiership football for us yet Europe wasn't clamouring to come and see how we did things or poaching our coaches.

Still, like 99% of football fans I don't really know if Segura was a messiah or a fraud so it's hard to be much other than neutral about news of his leaving.

Exactly how I see it DH to be honest, basically it's hard to say what his contribution is, and there's defo some luck in it - but our youth policy has basically failed badly for a long time for whatever reason. We've produced pretty much nobody of note for 15 years although Kelly is likely to be the best in that period. Is he down to Segura? I really don't know but don't think so.

I think he's just a big local lad who is well suited physically to the PL game.

Our kids seem to excite at youth levels then fade out, there's a disconnect between the youth and first team setups and I would have thought Segura if responsible for anything would be responsible for that. If he's 'creating the way' then that should help the kids move from one level to the next seamlessly which they aren't at all.

Quite the opposite actually.

Heaven forbid it might be somewhere in between.

How long has he been with us?

Always a concern when a senior football person leaves. Maybe they thought he wasn't delivering. Maybe it's another example of poor management. Time will tell.

They do appear to be going all in with BR's vision. Fingers crossed it works.

He's only been in the role for three years. You can't start churning out first-team-ready players straight away. I felt the academy had come on a long way under him given where it was before. Reckon he was falsely promised a role within the proposed technical committee, which now seems to consist of Rodgers and perhaps Fallows.

Why should I know what you mean?

It was implied . My point was that it was near impossible for us to know the level of his contribution, and used two extremes to highlight that. Did you really, honestly think I was ruling out the middle grounds too ? That I held the view that he couldn't be something inbetweeners 'messiah and fraud'? Really ?
