Raul is starting to find some good fitness as well as form. Showed some nice pace to break free late on, shame he didn't find Torres with the pass.

He's coming on nicely.

Edit: Nice

You need them both. Or equivalents. You playing 433 in this league and want to win things you need six very good options in centre mid.

Right now, looking at those legs fade on that pitch, I'd take Aquilani back in a second. That doesn't mean I want Meirelles to go, but I'd have him on the next flight back if possible.

Absolutely. We need as many quality players in the team as we can get. We struggle to bring on quality to change games.

Aquilani would thrive under Kenny's pass and move.

Miereles is starting to look like a fantastic signing - just harden him up a bit tackling wise

he made one great recovery tackle to steal the ball back in the first half. He is definately competing more.

Aqua ain't coming back is he? Just can see it...plus he seems to have become something of an untapped legend with every passing

Month...yet he didn't do much did he?

Regarding Raul...well the problem here is the Gerrard issue, can we fit Raul and Stevie in the same side?tonight they seemed to get in each others ways at times

Still think the best solution is gerrard on right where he can dominate like say zidanne or nedved..but I just can't see it happening.

Saying that....for the rest of the season if we don't actually get any new signings,I'd like to see the following given a try....

----------------reina---------------

Kelly-----carra-agger---aurellio

Maxi------gerrard--Lucas--Johnson

-----------------raul----------------

----------------Torres-----------------

I'm not surprised Mereiles tired at the end, he worked incredibly hard last night.

Lost track of how many times he got his head down and tracked back at full speed from his position 'in the hole' - his work rate was well over and above what that position demands. I'd be happy to see Aquilani back still because he's a very talented player and there should always be a place here for players of his ability, but at the same time if there was a straight choice between the two I would take Mereiles every time. He's not injured all the time, more mobile and I think mentally tougher and better equipped for English football.

I'd like to see both in the squad though if money is available for other transfers; if we still had to sell to buy he'd be a luxury but if FSG are going to support us properly I'd like him to come back here. Think crucially though he'll want to stay in Italy.

Would love AA back, but I think Juve would be stupid to pass him us at 16m euros now after the season he is having.

The midfield performance he gave against Pompey last season was one of the best I've seen and he is such a classy player, was genuinely gutted when he went on loan as thought he could have been an ace card this season.

Having him, Gerrard, Merieles, Lucas as midfield options would be excellent. You wouldnt get the ball off them.

I can't see that it would be built into the loan that we have to sell for £13m at the end of the loan.

"if he's s*** we'll take him back, you're under no obligation to buy him but if he's amazing then you can have him for a knock down £13 million"

It would take a complete f***ing idiot to build in a clause like that.... oh wait mad.gif

He was injured/unfit.

We spent a whole year nursing him to good health, then piss him off to Italy - where he IS doing the business.

To be fair he did the business for us in a few games as well, towards the end of the season he was growing into the team and offering us the creativity we were after.

Hodgson and Purslow really f***ed this club up in their short time together. The amount of damage they managed to do in the short time is actually quite remarkable and that's a credit to them.

Think he was our highest assister (is that a word) in the 2nd half of last season, also pretty sure i read that Insua was our 2nd best assister so it made perfect sense to loan them both out.

Think the improved form of Meireles has somewhat dulled our eagerness to sign Suarez, different players and it means we play a different way, but it's working and that may mean we're not as keen to break the bank for Suarez

Pushing Meireles further forward though, means that Adam is a must before the window closes, can't see Kenny relying on CFP to sit alongside Lucas

Different players who play in different positions and won't even be competing for the same spot.

You do realise we're very think up front (and lack quality on the wings) and Meireles' form is not gonna change that?
