Hodge Positives

1. We look more dangerous from corners and a little bit more inventive. Thought the 1st goal yesterday was a good routine. Helps that RM seems to have a decent delivery in him.

2. Lucas & RM - looks a very good partnership that. There's a hodge negative in that he keeps shunting RM out to the right - but that is another matter

3. He appears all too slowly to be learning. We've started pressing the ball. A bit. And he also is saying better things in the media. I suspect somebody may have suggested that he "button it, d****ead"

4. Ngog - looks a player.

He still has an annoying grid though.

I think Gerrard not taking set pieces has helped. Kyrgiakos also offers more of a threat. Not sure this is really a Hodgson plus point?

I think this has been rather forced on him and was clearly the best partnership before he'd even put them together.

Not sure about this, the next stupid comment could only be a press conference away.

How has this got anything to do with Hodgson? To be fair to Ngog he did well last season when he was the only player stepping into fill the massive hole Torres left when he was injured. The lad clearly bulked up over the summer and clearly works very hard to improve his game. This improvement is down to his attitude as much as anything else.

He still has an annoying grid though.

Agreed

He now appears to have a plan with the ball. As in a style of football he wants us to play. This is a good start

I think the weeks without a game have helped here alot

I'm ok with the tactic of pressing in some areas and not others as well. Its much better than the press in no areas whatsoever plan

I still dislike him personally, but am pleased he seems to be becoming the manager I thought he would be (ok, not good enough for Liverpool), rather than absolute baffoon he appeared to be at one stage

Not sure there are any really, its good we're beating s**** at home but we won 9 and drew 1 of 10 at home v the bottom half last season so I wouldnt put it in the positive bracket. We do seem to have a style at last under him but is that a positive or just what a manager should do?

Its all about the away games, until he sorts what we couldnt last season and he cant throughout his whole career im going to find it hard to be positive regarding anything about him.

5. We navigated the Europa League with a minimum of fuss.

It's our best partnership because the useless f***ing c*** Hodgson bought for central midfield isn't fit to wear the shirt, and that eventually dawned on him after a third of a season of relegation football. So he decided to put the £11M central midfielder (who I don't believe was his signing) who has played central midfield all his life into central midfield, on the f***ing offchance that it might be his best position.

We can't have it both ways here

He bought Merieles and Poulsen. Or neither.

Bit daft to say he bought the s*** one but not the good one.

You're only as good as your last game?

Not really. All of that stuff applied to the spurs game for the 1st hour as well.

I think I'm slightly blinded by the corners thing on this. I was very happy when we got good at corners in the Gary Mac MBabs Sami days

Why's that? I don't know the ins and outs but Poulsen is clearly Hodgson's signing and the Merieles deal could have been lined up as Rafa had said that Masch could leave this summer.

Like I said, I don't know the ins and outs but it's hugely possible and given that Hodgson had no idea what his best position was despite being a central midfielder for his entire career is a little bit odd.

Been widely suggested that the deal was in place for when Masch left. Hodge's cluelessness about where to play him seems to back that.

Supposition. It's possible I suppose but it's still a reflection of where we are

Finnan was gone under Rafa etc etc etc.... Stuff happens.

Hodgson isn't a long term solution, or even a mid term solution.

But unless there is a top drawer candidate prepared to come here, then he is here in a caretaker capacity effectively

and much though I hate his press utterances, and he needs to massively improve away form, I am getting very bored at the constant sniping at everything even when we win

positives

we are actually passing it on the deck and trying to play out from the back

he trusts players like Maxi

Lucas and Meirles is looking a promising centre mid partnership

he isn't afraid to admit mistakes, and drop poulsen

we qualified from the europa league with ease, giving regular playing time to the likes of shelvey, spearing, kelly and NGog

there are signs that the players are getting more comfortable with his methods

I'm positive about last nights play. The 4 4 2 looks great and I want to see more of it but :

i) to keep playing it he has to put Stevie out on the right. I hope he has the strength of character to do that.

ii) any side with a decent attack down our left flank will tear us to pieces there.

I (begrudgingly, as I don't like the man) have to think Hodgson deserves more of a chance after last nights display - but at the moment that's all it has been. One or two decent, not good, displays against poor opposition. It's a massive difference from that to having us play that way consistently. And away from home, where we still only have one win.
