Leo No.8 Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 (edited) I like getting a footy shirt from the local team or one of the country's teams to commemorate my visit there, then tend to loosely follow their results. We went to Mexico for Christmas and New Year and the waiter who looked after us at breakfast most days was a Pumas fan, but he didn't have an English team and liked my black LFC shirt so we swapped. He went and got the Pumas away shirt to swap with me, its a very nice kit and really unusual: Think its good to spread the LFC word where you can, and swap for another interesting club's shirt in turn. Pumas are a Mexico City team, so one of the other waiters who was a local guy (Cancun, we were staying close in Playa Del Carmen) wanted me also to have the local team (called Atlante) shirt so he went out and got me one to swap for my white LFC shirt! Apprently they had only been going a few years but had been really successful. So what shirts have people swapped for and bought around the world and are there stories behind each one? Coyler Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Friend of mine swapped a Bohemians (Dublin) jersey for a Bohemians (Prague) jersey. The latter bears on its crest a kangaroo, the import of which I know not. Stupid thicks play in Rovers' colours, though.
pipnasty Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 That's a nice shirt, Leo. When I was a lot younger, I used to buy as many footy shirts as I could afford and back in the day, shirts from countries like Spain were dirt cheap due to the exchange rate. I managed to buy all 3 Barcelona shirts (long sleeved aswell) for about a tenner each. They were lovely kits. Got the shorts and socks to go with them too. The material was really thing and it was bloody cold wearing them over here. I also got the Real Betis shirt from about 1984 cos I thought it looked boss. But we've been to places in the last few years and I regret not picking up a local shirt from there. I need to start doing something about it really.
cymrococh Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Got a Boca Juniors shirt in Buenos Aires as they are pretty much uniform over there, every other bloke is wearing one. It's dead comfy and I have worn it to death since getting it, gets a bit embarassing when you encounter a proper fan who assumes you are too though. I like the Unicef on the sleeves as well + even though I got it in the stadium shop, mine is fake.

Leo No.8 Posted February 5, 2010 Author Posted February 5, 2010 (edited) Love the Boca colours and shirt - very nice. Have always meant to lay my hands on one of their shirts but never got round to it. I do have the Argentina national shirt with Batistuta on it from the late nineties though, used to watch all the Italian footy back then when he was at Fiorentina and he was one of my favourite players in the game. Not sure I've ever seen a better all round striker than him, had every type of goal and his scoring record is astonishing. Those Barca kits are classics too; because they have no sponsor across the front its just subtle changes to the style through the years. Edited February 5, 2010 by Leo No.8
brouhaha Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 (edited) for HMHB fans the only possible shirt to have is a Dukula Prague away kit (my uncle owns a sports shop & he kept it to one side!) Edited February 5, 2010 by merseyparadise
Nebraska Red Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 used to do that when I was younger. now, I buy a shirt or t shirt when I go and see any sporting event over here. I have some strange minor league baseball hats and shirts stashed away, along with some stuff from NFL amd MLB teams.
nrkintheuk Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 (edited) I used to have a replica of this Valencia shirt - sported by Mario Kempes - that I picked up as a 9 year old on holiday in Spain... Though mine had red and yellow hooped socks that I was particularly proud of! Edited February 5, 2010 by nrkintheuk

Benzo-13 Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Borussia Dortmund from 92, 97, 99, 06, 08 & 09/10. The 97 shirt came in handy that year. Have a Boca #10 Maradona shirt from his spell there too.
muleskinner Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 I've still got the 1978 World Cup winning Argentina kit, its great, my kids have whipped it now but it looks as cool now as it did then.
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 A Mexican student played goalkeeper for us at Futsal . When he left to go back to Mexico, he gave me a Mexican jersey signed by Campos, who was his hero. He didn't follow English football, but I hope he's a Red now, I gave him a Liverpool scarf and a cap signed by Brucie.
Hassony Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I have the Iraqi football shirth that one of the players (natiq Hashim) played in in the 86 world cup in mexico. he was a good friend with my uncle when my uncle was a sales manager mistubishi in Dubai in the 80's, and gave him the shirt as a present
New York Red Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I had this one when I was a kid. I loved it. Never liked the team mind. I also had one of these. It's still in my house in Cardiff somewhere. I was wearing it the day we lost to Arsenal in the FA Cup Final.
