Imagine if Christian Purslow works his magic and that the pressures of the finances of Hicks an Gillett reach meltdown mode.

Purslow gets an investor, let's say a wealthy Russian oligarch, a Saudi group, or a truly wealthy and savvy American group like the Krafts, the Steinbrenners, Stephen Ross, or Paul Allen.

Our debt is reasonable.

A new stadium, not necessarily the one we have all seen plans for, gets started. A great facility with a way to expand to 76,000 in the future of need be.

Purslow gets more sponsors, naming rights, the merchandizing does really well, and we proprly tap into our global fan base.

We are healthy.

So we have to improve the squad and we have the money for it. But we aren't going to be idiots about it because we have a team who wants to run Liverpool properly. We sell our surplus, we fill in some back up roles carefully and sensibly. But we get to buy a really great player in the mould of Torres or Gerrard. We also get to buy two players slightly lower in value like Marscherano.

Bottom line is we get to spend 60-70 million on three players who will make the biggest difference to THIS team.

Who do you buy and why?

Well obviously its dependant on who's available.

But my 3 positions to look at would be centre half, Creative attacking mid and centre forward.

Attacking mid..... an easy choice for me. Juan Mata. Young, skillfull, pacy, eye for goal and has a killer pass. Also seems to be available.

What he would add most of all is possibilities. Can play on either the wing or in the no. 10 role.

Centre Forward.... I do think we need something big up there (ooh er) A young diddier drogba would be great and that kid lukuka might well turn into that but for all the good he looks now hes still only 16 and no where near the finished article. For the 20 or 30 mill you want the finished article. David villa would be nice but out of the price range, higuian is another I love but doesn't offer the big man factor. Id probably plump for Luis Fabiano. Can play up top on his own, can hold it up yet has bundles of abilty to play with whoever.

Centre Half...... this I stuggle with. I'd love a young Carra style CH to take over the mantle, only thing is, young quality centre halfs now seem to be nowhere to be found, upson would have been ideal but he's 30 now and no point on hammering money like that. Simon Kjaer seems to be the flavour of the month (or year as it may be) but I've no idea how he plays or exactly how good he is.

But this is fantasy.

The fantasy is us having responsible ownership.

Not getting Ronaldo, Messi, Ribery, Rooney, Alves and Eto'o in the same year.

Get with it my African transplant, Rugby League loving, Cardiff hating, weird name assuming pal. :D

It's the availability thing, innit? I'd be tempted to look at tyhe layer below the 'big names' for at least two if not all of the signings, and look for someone who still has a bit to go, room to become even better and may prove a real bargain, even if say for £15-20m. I'd have a long look at Suarez, and a couple of the strikers in the Bundesliga (whose names annoyingly escape me at the mo, but John AR will know them), have a look at that Chamakh Arsenal would like and of course the usual suspects in Spain.

Given our current state, some genuine solidity and craft - at this time - may be of more use for this season than getting in flair players with out time to bed them in. I'd also be on the lookout for a real leader at the back, one who in time could take on Carra's mantle - that may or may not be Agger, bhut the fact there is doubt means I'd be looking. All of our positions at the back are really good on the whole, yet all could be improved upon. I really like Insua and have done since he was in the stiffs, but I still have nagging doubts about his defending a little too often. Sotirios has shown himself a very capable fighter and looks a very cheap masterstroke.

Of the 'big boys' - I'd still look at Silva, Matta, Melo and at least enquire gently about Villa. I suppose this is a difficult question to answer overall as - such has been the state of our buying or lack thereof - some of us have not been looking at who might get that much as it seemed too much of a pipedream.

Gonna use the £70m on more than 3 players:

CB - Douglas £10m

LB - Cristian Ansaldi £5m

DM - Moussa Sissoko £15m

CM - Yoann Gourcuff £20m

LW - Adam Johnson £0

LW/RW - Arda Turan £15m

CF - Marouane Chamakh £0m

That leaves £5m spare for clubs playing hard ball!

Squad

Reina

Gulacsi

Bouzanis

Johnson Douglas Agger Ansaldi

Darby Carragher Ayala Insua

Kelly

Mascherano

Sissoko

Turan Gerrard Aquilani Riera

Maxi Gourcuff Benayoun Johnson

Amoo Pacheco

Torres

Chamakh

Kuyt

The 8 (or more) "English" players for next season from the 25 are Gulacsi, Bouzanis, G. Johnson, Darby, Kelly, Carragher, Ayala, Insua, Gerrard and A. Johnson. You then can add to that squad with players under 21 who meet the same criteria so would add in Amoo and Pacheco. (Disclaimer: haven't checked the exact rules just going from memory)

For me we need more options CB, LM, AM, CF, focus on pliers who would "guarantee" success in PL (thus not the most flashy names)

CB: The next Carra 13m...don't know if Cahill or Shawcross are good enough?

LM: Ashley Young 20m (cheaper alt. Turan)

AM: Aguero 25m

CF: Kenwyne Jones 12 (cheaper alt. Chamakh/Jovanovic on free)

Squad:

GK RB LB CB LM RM CM CF

Reina Kelly Greek Young Maxi Masch Aguero

Cavalieri Johnson Aurelio Carra Riera Benny Lucas N'Gog

Degen Insua Agger kuyt Aquilani Torres

Darby Cahill Stevie G Pacheco

Ayala Spearing Jones

A quality LB is a must but very few available -- As for attacking and midfield power Silva - Villa - Krasic would give us massive options

Hi NYR mate

How's it going old mate?

Personally I'd be tempted to splurge on David Villa and to sign Chiellini and Hamsik.

Taiwo is a decent option at LB isn't he?
